It was 84 F here in West Michigan today which meant that we “grilled out.” Yum!! I don’t care what we make it’s just always better on the grill. The temps are going back down to the 50s tomorrow; so what I say! We’ll take it. When you live in a cantankerous climate, you take what you get.
Summer is still a long ways off but …but being outside in the sunshine with delicious smells filling our neighborhood, it felt like summer is in sight.
What smells evoke summer to you?

I love grilling out! Have I mentioned that we lived in Midland for a while many years ago? We had at least one summer there that the whole season happened on a Tuesday! Seemed like it, anyway. I love all the fresh produce of that region…the cherries, apples, the great ethnic cuisine. I learned a little about Polish foods living in the Tri-cities area. There were some great mom and pop restaurants we were introduced to.
But summer…the smell of cut grass is one of my favorites! And sometimes when we’re out and about running errands, we get a brat from someone selling outside a Home Depot or other big box store. And farmers markets…we have had many a happy lunch at farmers markets. All good, all signs of summer!
Thanks!
Sheila
Hi Sheila, yes I think you did tell me once that you had lived in Midland; great area and an abundance of fresh produce & fruits … which all makes for a spectacular grill season
. And yes, freshly cut grass is definitely another smell that tells us “summer is near.” The best part of grilling last night was we doubled up on our efforts & have enough grilled-fresh tasting food for 3 days. Yeah!! Happy day to you, MJ
Certainly reads like summer…
Loved the scene. Now I’m hungry.
Hard to beat freshly grilled … anything! Thanks for weighing in, LeRoy. MJ
It wasn’t quite as warm here, but we definitely had “shirt-sleeves” weather this weekend. AND we got a new grill and initiated it with some bratwurst. I love this time of year. The grill gets used almost daily through the spring and summer months.
I hear you; something about food on the grill that evokes lazy summer evenings. It doesn’t seem to matter what ends up on it, anything grilled = goodness! Thanks, Ter. MJ
