Spare yourself from seeking love, approval, or appreciation – from anyone. And watch what happens in reality, just for fun. – Byron Katie

Love the quote and love the paw picture! Too cute.
The picture was an accident! I was trying to snap his picture and, at the last minute, he tried to give me a “high paw.” LOL MJ
Byron Katie- Glad we can learn from her experience and not have to go through what she did. Great teacher…Thanks for sharing this.
I agree; I find her work (the Work) very inspiring. Cheers! MJ
But what about those of us so needy for appreciation and approval (I have to be at least LIKED if not LOVED by everyone who meets me–which is never really an issue, as I am “the total package). But all teasing aside, aren’t we all genetically wired to want to please others, serve others as it comes to make us happier? Just wondering.
Oh I do think we have an inherent need to belong .. and being liked/appreciated is surely part of that. What I love about this quote is the thought it provokes: what if you chose your actions purely based on you and not what others would think of you? Would pandemonium ensue? Would you make the same choices? To me, it’s also about having the grace to accept ourselves, warts & all, and worry a little less about everyone else’ opinion. But that just my take on it … Love the comments Rich! MJ
I agree with you, especially the part about “having the grace to accept ourselves, warts and all.” I strongly feel that most folks aren’t comfortable “in their own skin”, they’re too wrapped up in how others preceive them. Old folks are usually past this, thats what makes them so cool to be around. I’ve also begun questioning my motives…if what I’m doing is selfishly based.
It’s occurred to me lately that the people I am most happy to hang around are the ones who are comfy with themselves. That makes for a bit of a small group sometimes but, that’s OK, because what ensues is so much fun!! Cheers, MJ
