This time … I knew to expect it. This time … I was ready.
You see … last year on this date, I had no idea that Christmas music would be playing just one day after Halloween.
This year .. I switched radio stations ahead of time. (It’s the little things that make us feel in control of our lives, isn’t it?)
We had mild weather for the little trick-or-treaters in West Michigan … but not that many kids. That’s OK because I’m gonna round up our extras in support of our troops.
Did you know there’s an organization that is HAPPY to get your leftover (wrapped) Halloween candy? And that this candy is shipped to our military personnel all over the world? Visit here for more info.
Making the time to do something nice for others might just spark a little Christmas spirit anyways!

My husband rounded up the candy, stainless steel bowl, camera and I threw in our giant 3 foot scarecrow for Trunk or Treat on Sunday. There were crowds of kids and no candy left for Halloween last night, so we made still another run for candy. We didn’t have that many trick or treaters. What a great idea…the left overs will fit perfectly in a giant mailer envelope or two that we have.
Absolutely – they will be thrilled to have it. Be sure to fill out the donation form on their site if you wish to be acknowledged – and you will be!! MJ
Interesting giving opportunity! In the past two years, we have had a total of two trick-or-treaters come our home. My husband’s friend decided to bring his two kids by, totaling four this year, and I was scrounging through drawers to find candy we missed. I need to be more prepared next year!
Hope they enjoy their swiss rolls and star bursts…
I’m sure they loved everything you gave them
MJ
I didn’t know about the organization that sends candy to troops, thanks for sharing.
And I so understand the early Christmas thing. I love Christmas, but I don’t want it in October! Saw all sorts of holiday stuff out at the local Wal Mart when I was there last weekend.
The next holiday is Thanksgiving! Sheila
It’s a great organization and I was thrilled to receive a thank you letter last year
. I love Christmas and agree with you whole-heartedly .. the next holiday IS Thanksgiving! MJ
It is a shame that Thanksgiving seems to be completely overlooked. Everyone should be like me and not start their Christmas shopping until the second week in December. Well….maybe that’s not such a good idea after all!
I agree that Thanksgiving gets the shaft. It’s turned into “Black Friday” and all that nonsense. I despise that part of it … give me turkey, cranberries, fuzzy pants and football
Cheers Diana, MJ
Christmas spirit ala Halloween candy! Love it. Supporting our troops is always a grand idea. Thanks for the link.

You’re welcome for the link .. it’s a good organization that can benefit from my over-buying .. every year
MJ
I really like this post! I’m not quite ready for the pumpkins to disappear and the Christmas music to appear yet. Although in Sophie’s candy yesterday, she got tootsie rolls wrapped in Christmas wrapping! Which means someone has already bought Christmas candy, or worse, they saved it from last year.
Thank you; I’m want to enjoy every bit of fall, too, and I resent having “next, next, next!” shoved at me like I’m starving for it.
On the tootsie roll … I’m thinking last year … sorry,
MJ
We rush into the holidays and then fail to enjoy them because we’re planning the next one. I’m with you, let’s slow down and enjoy the beautiful autumn, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and THEN Christmas. Remember when we actually looked forward to the Christmas music because it wasn’t old and tired by Christmas Eve?
Yes, yes and Yes!
Honestly from now till about December 15th I pretty much have to boycott radio. Sad but true… out come the CDs again
MJ
Oh, I’m one that never tires of Christmas music. I listen to it year ’round, in fact. I say the world needs the Christmas spirit all year long. The commercialism? No. The spirit of giving and doing for others? Yes. Bring on O’Holy Night and hold on to that feeling throughout the year.
Still, I respect your wishes, so …. Happy All Saints Day (one day late).
I hear you, Lenore. I actually have listened to it at other times of the year, too … I think it’s the commercialism that I push back from and the HAP HAP HAPPIEST time of the year stuff….. Cheers! MJ
You always have the greatest info! Thanx!
‘welcome. Good to have you here again, Lissa
