In the details

Yesterday the boys worked through the rain to line my flower beds with mulch.

Pride puffed their chests when Dad said, “Now that’s a job well done.”

The grands – oh they worked hard, too – building forts and cookies with Nana.

We played, we laughed, we dined and we loved.

Delighted giggles filled the house as little ones made memories, baking cookies for Mommy.

Tracing dimpled hands, trying on old Halloween costumes and discovering toys from long-ago.

A day spent just “being.”

Mother’s Day came early you see, and my gift was in the details.

Happy Mother’s Day!

  2. Happy Mother’s Day!

  3. I love how sweetly you cherish the ‘real’ moments and the ‘details’. Fabulous! Happy Mother’s Day MJ.

    • Thank you; it hit me, in the heat of it all, when I could hear the boys chatting outside, watch Hubbs on his way out to run and errand, and witness the giggles of little ones near me, my heart was full. I could not want for more.

Happy Mother’s Day to you ~ MJ

  4. Oh, I love the notion of mother as verb! Happy Mother’s Day, my friend!
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • Me, too :) I have a dear friend who never became a mother, but she mothers everyone I know, me included. She clucks just as loud as any mother hen I’ve ever met. Mother .. it’s a verb :)

      MJ

  5. Happy Mother’s Day
Those “details” sure have cute smiles!
    God Bless

  6. I see who gets to guard the chocolate chips…they know the right place to be, that’s for sure…HMD

    • Yes, indeed. It didn’t take long for them to scootch their chairs up to the counter. I doubled the recipe so that there was 2x as much to measure & stir. They did great. MJ

  7. Sweet post – I have to wonder just who loved the day more….! I call it a tie.

  8. The recipe for patience, kindness and the love of a grandma.♥ Details–the oven doesn’t care what day you bake the cookies.

    • That’s exactly it. I had Friday off so had prepped lunch ahead of time. When they arrived, we had a lazy, lingering lunch then the guys went to work. Me & the wee ones played and enjoyed our time together. Happy Mother’s Day to you :) MJ

  9. What cute bakers and fort makers you have! Sounds like a wonderful day.

  10. Kids in the kitchen is a wonderful memory. I love your lilacs! Wow! Are the branches breaking?

    • Indeed; it took me right back to doing the same with my Mom & Grandma. And the Lilacs are done; they came early this year, too early. But they were glorious and that fragrance? Heavenly. MJ

  11. I love this :) and you’re exactly right. It sounds like a perfect day!

  12. So sweet! I know you had a wonderful weekend, MJ. Happy Mother’s Day.

  13. So glad you had such a wonderful day! What cute kiddos!
