The hubbs is a big strapping man who’s lying low today because he had 4 wisdom teeth extracted on Monday.
He’s puffy, sore and sleepy.
I’m home.
Armed with a cauldron of homemade chicken soup, clean blankets, pain relievers and accompanied by our trusty pooch, Frank, I’ve been up and down the stairs about 40 times to check on him.
He’s cozy, comfy and loved.
I’m monitoring email, responding to voice messages and am exactly where I want to be.
I mentioned to a female friend that I’d likely stay at home today and her response startled me, “Why would you do that? You’re only going to spoil him you know.”
Um.. Isn’t that the point?
That’s what I’d want if I was in his shoes. And I’d get it. Now.
He wasn’t always the best at care-giving; he freaks at the sight of blood and he tends to over-react to anyone in pain. Once, after he got me home post-surgery, he left for a few hours. Not his proudest moment. But no reason to deny care now.
If I were the one down for the count, he’d bring me Campbell’s Chicken soup because he can’t cook. But .. it would be warmed and served with care. I’d hear his big feet up and down the stairs as he tippy toed in to check on me. I’d feel his broad hands as he pulled the blankets up to cover my shoulders. I’d hear his deep voice whispering to the boys or the dog to “stay out of your mother’s room and let her rest!”
Care. Concern. Love. Attention. Comfort.
It costs nothing. It means.. everything.
I am learning so much about how to be a good wife and mother from you. My husband was home sick on Monday and I was more irritated than caring…next time I will do a better job. Hugs!
awww Heather. If that isn’t the nicest compliment I’ve ever been given, I don’t know what is. Thank you for stoppin on by 🙂
Well, I hope the “Hubbs” gets better soon. I do not know how having my wisdom teeth pulled out feels, but I am sure it is not good.
And I agree. “It means everything.” Thanks for the post!
Thanks HL1981; he’s on the mend and I take all the credit 🙂 cheers!
Thanks so much for this post! I feel exactly the same way. What’s the point of it all if you can’t show your husband, wife, important one in your life, that you love them?! Sounds like you have it figured out!
Thank you Sheila; I completely agree. In my experience, actions speak volumes. Thanks for visiting. Peace! MJ
