“Your closet should contain 3 categories of clothing: clothes you love, clothes that fit you now, and clothes that garner you compliments whenever you wear them.” Peter Walsh, organizational expert.
My first response when I heard this quote was, “Wow my closet would be much more spacious if I applied this rule!”
How many items do I have that don’t fit me now and are stark reminders of a size I wore… ten years ago? Those little(r) clothes are like playground bullies who taunt me of my insecurities every time I open the closet. They are not motivators, no, to the contrary. They make me feel badly.
Add in the abundance of boring clothes that evoke a feeling of blah when I look at them or put them on. I think I can count 8 items that I love or get compliments on. There’s maybe 6 that fit me really well right now.
The same rule applies to shoes – there are the corporate heels that I never need in my job, cute sandals that hurt my feet when I wear them and, again, impractical shoes bought because they were on sale.
Jessica Rabbit-ness???? Yum….
My clothes closet has just one type…clothes I like that make me feel good. I know, it’s supposedly “easier” for guys…
JR on a good day and Edith Bunker other days = ha! Cooper you have it right, and that is my goal, to one day have a closet full of clothes that only make me feel fab! Thanks for visiting, MJ
Uh. I might actually get to see my clothes if that were to happen to my closet. Not saying that my wife has too many clothes (er, cough, grunt).
I hope you get to feeling better soon so you can go on the adventure of finding the back of your closet…maybe you should write a story about the adventure…hmmm. 🙂
The Hubbs is really good at cleaning things out and throwing things away… me? Not so much. But .. having a goal and a strategy should surely help. Thanks for the kind wishes HL1981!
