Summer vacation ….Oh how I love you.
The past week of purposeful nothingness has been just what I hoped for and exactly what we needed:
The pinch of summer sun on shoulders, ears and noses.
Freshly grilled meals. Crunchy summer salads, orchard fruits, farmers market finds and ice cold beer.
Wrinkling of toes, too long in the pool. Water splashed onto my book.
The daily presence of friends, Tigers baseball and a steady shuffle of songs on the mp3 player.
The squeaky voices of delighted grand-babies. The oohs and ahhs from fireworks.
Flags waving in the summer breeze.
Finches fattening at the feeder.
Naps.
Meandering mornings watering plants who will mourn vacation’s end.
The lazy evenings watching fireflies dance through the yard.
Summer nights under the stars, talking, laughing, living.
Shared glances, twirly skirts, golf dates and date nights.
Summer vacation.
An absence of schedule. Lack of obligation. No particular place to be.
Summer vacation, oh how I love you.
sounds positively decadent!
It has been … absolute heaven. Cheers!! MJ
Remember these moments. Gone all to soon!
indeed… we’ve had many ask, “oh what did you do? Did you go away?” To which we’ve replied, ‘nope …stayed home.’
We work hard all year to have a nice home/yard and there’s something to be said for just staying put and enjoying it. 🙂
Cheers, MJ
Looks like our granddaughters are about the same age, MJ! Love the little dress and sandals!
We’ve been enjoying BBQs and fresh greens for the last couple of weeks as well…yum!
Wendy
I think they’re close, yes, she’ll be 2 in a few weeks :). She and her brother make my heart sing; they are just so much fun. And those little toes/sandals/etc, too, too cute.
Off to another BBQ today and really glad I took tomorrow off as well … back to work Tuesday……. Cheers! MJ
Mmmm…. that sounds so wonderful. Glad you had the time to slow down and just enjoy life for a while.
It has been just what we needed … Cheers! MJ
Your week sounds delicious! I love the descriptions that are so evocative of relaxing, time by the pool, time to just be. So glad you take the time to renew yourself and to be with those you love…the best part of any vacation!
Welcome back!
Sheila
Hubbs and I were chatting last night and realized that the days have started to run together and when we can’t keep track we realize that we’re really relaxed!! Cheers, MJ
One of my favorite things in life “uncommited time.” Time to do what I like to do…the easy & simple stuff in life that re-energizes my soul. You’ve captured that.
I’ve learned to step away from the over-scheduled and step back into the carefree summer days of my youth … for those are the ones that truly restore my soul.
Thanks for weighing in, Rich 🙂 MJ
Adorable photo of your baby girl MJ. Sigh…I think you have counted all the ways to love summer vacation…and then there’s Labor Day!
yes! We still have quite a few fun things on the “horizon” to look forward to, but no long stretch of time off like this again till Christmas … sigh. I will think of summer vacation so fondly 🙂 MJ
Sounds just wonderful! And love that photo of your grandbaby!
Thank you .. she is just so cute, and I was so thrilled to capture at least one photo of her waving the flag. She waved it so hard that most of my other photos were blurred … 🙂 MJ
Sounds fabulous…so excited! We are leaving for a family trip to the Gulf. Down to Padre Island where the water is pretty with lots of seafood and wonderful authentic mexican food across the border.
Yum; we have been to Padre and i know that water you speak of .. not to mention the fresh cerviche and salsa is to die for! Have fun Lissa 🙂 MJ
Is this what I am doing? I’m on vacation and loving it – yet I am behind on reading and writing blogs. Is this the “An absence of schedule. Lack of obligation. No particular place to be.” what I am experiencing? I admit – I kind of love it, though I miss the writing and reading, too.
I deliberately stepped away from the schedule, including blogging, and only posted when I truly “felt” it … and even though I missed reading all my regular blog “favorites,” I know I will easily slip back into it.
Enjoy your vacation 🙂 MJ
This does sound lovely…I haven’t had a week off in years…savor it for me.
it is, I highly recommend it. And if not a week, a long weekend with no particular plans just time to do whatever it is you feel like doing (and that doesn’t include anything resembling chores .. just fun!)
Cheers! MJ
soak it up woman! I intend to do the same 🙂
yay! Good on you, Jessie 🙂 MJ
Being a citizen in a perpetually busy world, the state of doing nothing could be described as nothing else but bliss! In the middle of all the stress, all that I desire to do is just stop for a while, breathe in and breathe out, and do nothing. The state of nothingness is definitely heaven to me! 🙂
you and me both; thanks for weighing in 🙂 MJ
