I’m headed home today.
To a land of living skies, golden fields, and Northern lights.
Home.
I’m headed home today.
To people who will ask, “how are you?” and actually want to know.
To butter tarts, cabbage rolls, Greek ribs and pierogies.
To temps in Celsius and the Queen’s currency.
I’m headed home today.
To Old Dutch potato chips, Pilsner beers, CBC and the CTV.
To grain reports, cattle prices, crop yields and pie at Mom’s kitchen table.
To laughs and stories and photos and many a-remember whens.
To lazy walks down a country road, a whiff of saddle soap in the tack room, and kittens at foot.
To Roughrider football parties, community suppers, and chats with teachers, Sunday School mentors and elderly aunties who’ll hug me like there’s no tomorrow. And my eyes will cloud a bit when they do.
I’m headed home today.
To the tiniest of places with a hold so strong it both anchors and frees its own to go around the world with confidence because they know there still exists a place where everyone knows their name.
I’m headed home today.
Cheers!
Happy travels my friend. Enjoy “home”! It looks like a slow moving/ good for the soul kind of place.
I completely disconnected from everything – with the exception of the odd phone call to my boys at home. Good for the soul, MJ
Looks like I guessed right when I thought to myself, “Saskatchewan?”
My most favorite picture, other than the awesome Northern Lights shot, is that incredible barn….I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful time at home!
I love that photo – and that barn – too. It was a wonderful week but went far too fast! MJ

Wonderful pictures…all of them and the one of the Northern Lights is a crown jewel. I know you will enjoy every minute…safe travels. And I know your mom will give you that “glass of lemonade made especially for you.”
and she did!! It was great to go and good to come back as well. Cheers! MJ
Beautiful photos! Are you sure you’re not a photo blogger?!
I love the text too…so full of the best of rich memories and the details that make this uniquely “home” to you. Thank you for this lovely post, and I hope that your walk down memory lane during this visit is the heartwarming experience we all need when we go “home.” Sheila
It was surreal and marvelous, charming and off-putting all at one time. I will write more … but overall … great!

I love text and the pictures in this post! The pictures remind me of those we have of where my grandparents homesteaded in Alberta, only you have trees and more ‘hills’. 🙂 Can’t wait for more. Have a wonder time!
I am so glad you enjoyed it … I love the wide open spaces, the opportunity to view a sunrise/sunset nearly all the time and the freshest air possible … ahhh MJ
Your pictures really capture it, thank you and soak it all up!
It’s the land that I love 🙂 MJ
Very nicely said, MJ. Sometimes I think you are more poet than blogger – perhaps a photographic poetic blogger! Enjoy all of those moments.
Renee
