Being happy – the ultimate goal, right?
Except that … riding an ever-revolving wheel churning towards happiness is a little exhausting, don’t you think?
It’s good to get off the wheel. It’s good to take a look around.
It’s good to be happy right where you are.
With who you are.
With what you have.
With all you can do.
What about that?
“The world is full of people looking for spectacular happiness while they snub contentment.” – Doug Larson
Finding happiness in little things, simple things, is comforting and fulfilling. Happy weekend, MJ.
Agreed; I’m happy to be home today with a snoring dog, a good cup of coffee, my books and the sound of laundry running in the background. Peaceful and fulfilling!
Good to hear from you Marion 🙂 MJ
Yup. I’ll take it. ALL that I am/have/can do…and the profound contentment that goes along with it. There are moments of giddy happiness…but I think they’re not meant to be chased, just welcomed. And that, perhaps, the goal is learning to be content in any and every situation, even (especially?) when happiness eludes us!
Agreed – “not chased, just welcomed.” Perfection Adrienne!
MJ
I needed this little reminder. You are so right. What about right here and right now?
Thank you.
Yes! I decided to just roll with the day; I read, I putzed, I got took a small nap when tired. Now? Date night with Hubbs … 🙂 MJ
It’s a cool feeling to have things washed and folded…and put away. Enjoy your reading.
I love that; having things “done” and tucked away is one of life’s simple pleasures, isn’t it? MJ
I agree, contentment is a treasure to be appreciated, not scorned in the pursuit of some mythical level of happiness. Love the quote! ~ Sheila
I knew you’d love that quote, Sheila … MJ
“To be content in any situation” is a learning process where I hope I’m gaining some ground. Thanks for this post.
Practice makes perfect 🙂 MJ
Yes it is – and I chose to be that every day. (Though be warned… I can still get cranky.)
Choose. I choose that. I’d be cranky about the typo, alas I choose not to be cranky. (hee, hee)
hee hee – you are too funny LD :)MJ
That is exactly what I was thinking when I was at spinning last night at the YMCA (get off this wheel). The ONLY thing I am unhappy with is my weight (and it depresses me). I know I should try to be happy with how I am, but I won’t live very long if with that attitude. Unfortunately, I don’t appreciate it when I am at a healthy weight which I plan to change this time around. Thanks for letting me work this out in your comments. 🙂
I like how you worked that out … good job! 🙂 MJ
Gosh, I needed this reminder today, MJ. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook the simple blessings.
Thanks so much. Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
Hugs,
Kathy
I am enjoying my weeekend, Kathy … had a leisurely day yesterday and went out with Hubbs last night. Today it’s time to make some fun foods and then off to a SuperBowl party 🙂 Cheers MJ
My father was notorious for always pursuing the greener grass. I’m so thankful that I’ve learned that happiness is all around you. You just have to open your eyes, mind and heart to all that God provides for you :D. Great post!
It is all around us; we just have to see it, as you’ve described.
Thanks Guy!
MJ
For me…happiness always depended on happenings…now I focus on JOY; Jesus, others, yourself. I found when I decided to love Jesus and love others I found true joy which translates to contentment!
That sounds like a perfect recipe for contentment 🙂
MJ
Goodness, MJ! Your son looks SO much like my Marshall in this photo! I think we’ve commented on that before.
Oh – and lovely thoughts you’re sharing today too!
They do share a similar smile and high cheekbones, I think. 2 good looking kids 🙂
Cheers to you, Dianna
MJ
Wise, wise words. Let contentment satisfy.
Giving ourselves permission to just “stop” allows all the good to come in – in my experience.
MJ
Contentment – let it be the rule of the day. Thanks for that wonderful reminder.
and you are so welcome, Renee 🙂 Thank you for visiting, MJ
Your new header made me happy! Have a nice Sunday!
That makes 2 of us, Leah 🙂
Happy Sunday to you sweet friend- MJ
especially when we’ve allowed ourselves to be brain-washed that there is no such thing as “enough”. Love, air, food, water, sleep. That’s it!!!
That’s it! All I have to do is try to open an over-stuffed drawer or shut a bulging closet to be reminded 🙂
