The look

“You can say any fool thing to a dog, and the dog will give you this look that says, “My God, you’re right! I never would’ve thought of that!” – Dave Barry

I had just that kind of conversation with Frankie last night; his support never wavers!

  1. “You want TREATS?” T-Bob jumps up to kitchen sink. leans into the faucet lever, turns on the water and drinks a steady trickle of water to chase those treats down. “One of these days I need to make a video of you doing that.” “Such a talented cat you are!”

  2. Goodness–I talk to my dogs ALL THE TIME. Sometimes I’m grateful other folks can’t hear me, as I suspect they’d think I were way more nutty than I really am.

Great question, MJ! Frankie is a cutie!

    • Yep, I talk with him all the time, too .. on walks, when I get home, in the morning, you name it. They definitely can tell what’s up by the tone of our voices!

  3. Oh, yes, we talk to Sundae all the time. Sometimes it appears that she’s trying to talk back! I love it when her meows are two-syllable.
Frankie’s such a cutie. Love that quote too!

  4. Dogs are the best secret-keepers. You can tell them anything and they never tell. So of course that’s where I keep all my secrets!

  5. cooper

Absolutely! Talk about non-judgemental love and affection…

  6. All the time.

  7. I have to say I’ve also noticed this. But, with the flash of your dog’s eyes, it seems more like he’s trying to say, “I’m stealing your soul.”

    • … I have an old camera and he has cataracts. He might try to steal your sandwich however.

      • Well if that’s true than I really like his style.

Let me know if he likes belly rubs, because I’m making the offer.

      • of course he does … but be forewarned, he’s getting old and falls asleep quickly! πŸ™‚ MJ

  8. I can’t say I converse with her. I talk to her though. I tell her how pretty she is and how much I love her and she just soaks it all up. She’s going to be the most vain dog ever!

    • If you book her a Glamour shot we’re going to have to stage an intervention πŸ™‚ …. she is a very pretty girl

  9. Lately I’ve been singing to my puppy which I think I mentioned to you before – the Frere Jacques song. She now thinks its our song and lets me hold her while I sing it but not one minute more!

  10. Yes…we talk to them and they talk back..mostly with happy wagging tails but sometimes they can have a bit of an attitude.

  11. Pets are the best…they nurture us with looks, licks and disdain.

  12. I always conversed with pets when I had them. They make excellent listeners.

  13. I talk to Wilbur and Cherokee all the time, MJ. Love my puppies!

  14. Do I talk to my pets? Who doesn’t?! I always converse with them. I can’t imagine not.

  15. Oh, sure, we talk to our 7 month old Aussie pup, Duke, all the time.

Frequently he talks back, too. He always looks at us and whines. We go through the alphabet trying to figure out what he wants, but he never gives us any indication what he wants.

  17. I talk to pets, myself, a post…just about anything! One of my current projects for myself is to speak less…to absorb the concept that “less is more” in speech. NOT an easy thing to do for someone like me!
Dogs are the best, aren’t they? (Sorry to cat lovers, but I am firmly in the camp of dogs!) ~ Sheila

    • I’ve become quieter as I mature and I’ve learned I like it. I love kitties but Hubbs is deadly allergic; I’ve always loved dogs. I’d enjoy one of each but it’s not possible so our 12 year old “Super Dog” will have to do πŸ™‚
