Virgo and the Circus

I’m not a big follower of Astrological signs. I mean, I read my horoscope from time to time, but I’ve never put much stock into them.

Until I started paying attention to my Hubbs’ Virgo personality:   Tidy. Sensitive.  Analytical.  Logical. Grounded. Keeps feelings inside. Respectful.  Dependable, predictable and loyal.

And mine (Gemini):  Independent. Easily bored.  Creative.  Expressive. Challenging.  Quick. Adventurous.  Cautious, optimistic and loyal.

And then I ponder on how different our interests are:  his love of golf and sports and anything competitive.  My love of being creative: in the kitchen, at the computer, piano or with a paintbrush.

And when I think of us, the image that comes to mind is the Circus.  I just love the energy of the performers, the colors and the action; I would be exhilarated from all that activity.   He would shudder at the mere suggestion.   I love to travel and go; he sweats when filling a suitcase.

But when I picture us, I can’t help but smile at his stoic Virgo-ness and how he gently but firmly grounds my Gemini circus balloons.  On the contrary, it’s my Gemini twins who shake up his world and let him know that coloring inside the lines is not always necessary.  In fact, stepping out of them can be a whole lot of fun.

In the end, I suppose it’s all about balance.

How about you? Have you ever considered how the Zodiac affects your relationships?

Don’t believe in it as much, but mine is the worst. I’m Aries and my man is Virgo. Ours isn’t a circus, it is the chaos of the universe. And we still try to make it work. I guess that’s why we’re still together, though we’re poles apart! 😀

  2. I am a total Sagittarian… Extrovert, Expressive, I wear my heart on my sleeve. These qualities definitely effect all of my relationships 🙂

  3. I don’t really pay attention to astrology. I’m an aries and Sara is a taurus, but I’ve not thought much about how that affects our relationship. I may need to check into it. Fascinating post, MJ. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • Some of it I was aware of and some I googled. Check it out, you might be surprised at what you find. My Hubbs is Mr. Predictable and when we first met, I found that both soothing and sometimes a little dull. He’s calmed me and made me slow down, too. I’ve coaxed him out of his shell and now, he’s as talkative as I am 🙂 I know this, if I were with another Gemini, neither of us would get a word in edgewise.

I hope you and Sara are having a glorious weekend; it’s hot here in West MI, July weather.

      Cheers! MJ

  4. All the time. I’m a Virgo and Jim’s a Leo. I’ve read that this type of pairing isn’t common, but if it does work, it works well. Explains why we’re still together and able to put up with each other!

    • Cool that you have it working in your favor 😉 MJ

      • I’m a Virgo, too. No wonder we get along! 😉 And yes, we Virgos definitely need more ‘colorful’ people in our lives. We must learn to let loose and live once in awhile.

      • Is your Hubbs a Gemini like me? My Hubbs is the Virgo and you can set your watch to him 🙂 I love that b/c I tend to lose watches …. MJ

  5. Oh.My.Goodness! I am a virgo, Rob is a gemini. I, also, do not routinely read or put much stock in the zodiac, but there are some character traits in both of us that correspond amazingly to our signs. I have come to believe, more seriously, that he really does have twin personalities living in him. We’ve even named them!
I had to laugh at your comment about coloring inside the lines…so me, to color inside! I have to really stretch myself to think outside the box, something that comes as naturally as breathing to Rob. But as you said about your husband, I have my good points too! Fun to see the gender/signs reversed as reflected by you! ~ Sheila

    • Absolutely, you both do; we all do. I think the fun is in figuring them out. The boys laugh at their Dad who is dependable and into his routine but they also like that you can set your clock by him. If he tells you he’s going to do something, by gosh, he’s doing it. And I’ve always been the adventurous one that stretched their horizons and gave them something new to try; between us, I think we’ve provided good balance to them. I’ll say this … it’s never dull!!

      Color away …. 😉 MJ

  6. I’ve never really thought about it – I’m a Gemini, too! Hubby is a…. Capricorn, I guess. (I need to look it up, and see how it all plays into our relationship. Whether it has an effect or not…..we seem to be “working”!)

    • That’s right, I remember now that you are, too. I’m born right on the “cusp” so some papers think I’m a Cancer … and while I do identify with some Cancerian traits (love of hearth & home), I see the Gemini in me more. I’ll be interested to hear what yours & MM’s traits show. Whatever the case, yes, it’s workin’ 😉 MJ

  7. “And when I think of us, the image that comes to mind is the Circus.”

At least you didn’t think of clowns.

Never did put much stock in astrology, I’m afraid.

    • Absolutely. Hate. Clowns.

Ever read Stephen King’s “It?” That book did it for me … **shudder**.

Love the horses, elephants, peanuts & popcorn though LOL.

      Thanks for weighing in, Bob.
      MJ

  8. I used to read about astrology as a teen, but don’t pay it any mind any more.

    • Understand. Sometimes we read Frankie’s (the dog) … and it is pretty funny to read it in the context of a pooch, “Your recent efforts have left you frustrated” then we look at his pleading face as someone enjoys a sandwich … funny!! MJ

  9. It’s interesting how I can read our horoscope and it seems right on the mark. Other times I don’t recognize who they are describing. I don’t read it much or subscribe–just check in occasionally. When I do, I like to read the girls’ too. They have the same sign–because they are so different, I look for similarities.

    • I know what you mean …. sometimes the descriptions are way out there and not apropos at all. I read the grandkids’ signs, too, just for fun. 🙂 MJ

  10. No, but I like your imagery. When I think of my husband and my life together, I think of a leisurely, relaxing raft floating down a beautiful river with an occasional section of rapids happening far too frequently for our comfort level, but we get through it together. 🙂

  11. Here’s a good one – i’m a scorpio, she’s a libra. Libra’s are all about balance and making sure everyone is taken care of, sometimes to their own detriment. Scorpio is about passion, creativity and passion. when someone comes up with a good strategy for this, let me know.

    • My youngest son and my (late) Dad share a birthday – both Scorpios. Both creative, passionate and fun! I don’t know any Libra’s but she sounds like a great fit for you!! MJ 🙂

  12. When I was younger, I read my horoscope on a daily basis. I think I read it hoping it would tell me I was going to find my prince on that particular day. I never got that kind of horoscope. 🙂
I like the fact that you mentioned a circus, MJ. Regardless of the signs, marriages are quite like circuses. Sometimes the balancing act is right on the money – sometimes it is more of a juggling show. And sometimes – the marriage is nothing but roaring lions. (smile)
Rob and I are Pieces. I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, but we’re managing. (smile)

    • I agree … I picture the juggler on a unicycle .. there are days it feels like that, but most days I feel like the light-hearted gymnast doing flips off the galloping horse 🙂 Roaring Lions .. ha! Have a great day, LD!!
      MJ

  13. All I know is that my wife and I are almost total opposites unless it’s something “important” then we’re of the same mind. We drive each other crazy with our traits, but laugh it off once we’re “well rested”…which is usually Saturday afternoons. 🙂

When is your sons graduation party? It’s gotta be getting close. Are you ready?

    • Yes, that’s what I should have added … our interests are different but our values are in sync and how we go about things is also very much in sync.

The graduation party is 6/9 .. so a bit of time and no we are not ready .. but we’re getting there 😉 thx for asking! MJ

  14. Well, I just looked up my compatibility with my husband. I’m a Scorpio. He’s a Gemini. Our prospects were not supposed to be promising, but we just celebrated 24 years of marriage. Guess that’s why I don’t put much stock in astrological signs.

  15. As a Virgo, I thought you were talking about me there for a minute. And yes, I do find that I am typical Virgo and my husband, the Sagitarrius is a typical hunter. Maybe that’s what keeps the spark in the marriage.

    • I never thought about Sagittarius as the hunter –but you’re right! It’s interesting that the traits I see in hubbs you also see in yourself … Of course, we are all unique and no one can be categorized, but it is kind of fun to explore, don’t you think?
      MJ

  16. My hubs is a Virgo as well! I loved how dependable he was and now I can’t get him to hardly break out of his routine. I’m a Taurus and will bullish-ly hang in there though. While not the most spontaneous…I do like to travel and get out there. So far, it’s been mainly by myself. It’s okay…I like me. I know he will have the house nice and tidy when I get home!

    • You sound like you have figured out what works for you, Lissa. Somehow, with your level head, I am not surprised 🙂 MJ

  17. I think I remember my sign as Libra. Don’t hold me to it. lol Whatever my hubby’s is, I know we have some stuff in common, but other stuff, not so much. My son is like me, but he’s a different sign. My daughter is like her father was, but he shared the same sign as my son. Go figure. Most days, I think my sign is not astrology oriented but plain old life…as in, “here’s your sign.” Mine should be “bonehead”. Good post to think about! I like how you ask questions.

    • Bonehead – ha ha ha! Now that was a funny response 🙂 Honestly, I think we’re all a hodge-podge of characteristics. I could display the most annoying of the Gemini traits or the most attractive and … being a Gemini .. it truly does depend on the day. Cheers! MJ

      • Depends on the day, my mood and if I can get a good deal on Amazon. That’s just the way my bonehead self sees it. hehe
