All wise & prehistoric

Grands on the 4th

The past few days have been hot as what,  breaking records right and left.   The only place to be is in the pool.  AB and MJ came to swim on Independence Day and we all enjoyed jumping, splashing, and bobbing around together.

The conversations were varied and went something like this:

  • Nana, how do lightening bugs have lights in ’em? Dad says you’ll know.
  • Neenaw, watch me!
  • Nana, I didn’t know the edge was shallow, will you walk with me?
  • Neenaw, I did it!
  • Nana, how come the water goes in that little box? Where does it go? Why do the frogs hang out there? Oh they like the bugs, like a Chinese buffet?  Cooool …..
  • Neenaw, catch me!
  • Nana, I’d take a juice box and a freezie-pop.
  • Neenaw, me too!

Becoming a grandmother is wonderful.  One moment you’re just a mother.  The next you are all-wise and prehistoric.  ~Pam Brown

Such a sweet post, all-wise MJ. They must be a joy in your life.

    • without a doubt they are!

To clarify, I told AB that the bugs float into the skimmer and the frogs sit there like they’re at a buffet …. and he said “Like a Chinese Buffet?” {{the only kind he knows}}. Funny boy.

  2. Oh my! Too stinkin’ cute!!!

  3. Very cute……….:)

  4. I love being a grandma… My grans call me Momma and it warms me up! I love their questions… How do lightening bugs have lights in ’em?

    • I hear you there; When we’re young and raising our babies of course we enjoyed them but we were busy doing other things, too .. folding clothes, fixing supper, etc. When I have them I get to just be with them .. and they’re pretty darn entertaining. Like Marshmallow Fluff for every meal = sweetness.

what cuties…being a grandparent is fun isn’t it?

  6. Is it just me, or does Little Girl Grand resemble her Neenaw?
Funny how those questions and statements sound absolutely adorable when viewed through the eyes of a grandparent, but may sound (on occasion) a wee-bit annoying to a parent. Is that bad to admit? Grandparents get all the good stuff.

    • She really favors my son but she has her Momma’s pretty eyes. I see both of them in her; my son looks just like me so there is that to consider.

I hear you; It wasn’t always so enchanting when mine were little and I was trying to get from A to B and everything in between. I think the best part of being a Grandparent is being a soft place to fall.

      🙂 MJ

  7. Very cute! Glad you had a nice July 4th holiday!

  8. It sounds like an absolutely joyful day! I so look forward to days like this one!

  9. “…all-wise and prehistoric…” First, you had me smiling and then laughing at the finish. Adorable munchkins you have there.

  10. The conversation sounds so familiar! Maybe we get to be grandparents so we can realize what we missed the first time around. 🙂

  11. Oh wow. I want to be prehistoric! That is soooo cool. Happy days.

  12. so precious! that little girl looks so much like you, or am i just imagining things?!

  13. What cuties. I can’t imagine how fun it must be to be a grandmother. By the way, it’s been infernal here, as well. Stay cool.

  14. Sweet! They are adorable.

  15. Those little kids are awfully cute! Lucky you to be close to them! Riley is beginning to know us and she definitely talks…well, how could she be anything but a talker, with her gene pool?! We’ll see her in a week, it will be interesting to be with her and see what she’s learned since we saw her in May. Don’t know if we’ve reached the wise and pre-historic stage with her yet! ~ Sheila

  16. It sounds as if you have been having a wonderful vacation–good for you! And those grandchildren are just pretty darn adorable!

    • it has been some really nice time off; I’m heading out tomorrow on a business trip so I feel like my world’s are colliding today – wah!

  17. I love being prehistoric. Your grandbabies look and sound adorable.
