Just how beautiful life can be

Driving North this week, I encountered many signs of fall.

I allowed myself extra time to drink in scenes like this … one of yellows and oranges popping against a startling September sky:

ahhh

I saw reds and golds and every color in between:

look at that range!

There were pumpkins and mums, bears and old pickup trucks:

near Kingsley, MI

And of course, apples… loads and loads of apples:

bought a bag of course!

But this, this was the sign worth turning around for:

Not his Mom but still I cried.

β€œFall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.”

  3. Gorgeous and one of a kind scenes. Thank you for taking us along with you, MJ. Your photos of fall are perfect.

  4. I’m making a true effort to appreciate fall this year – trying to focus on the beauty of the moment rather than fret over the impending winter…which i know is ludicrous ‘cuz there’s nothing i can do about it anyway….

    working on it……

    • Good on you, Coop. I (gasp) love winter … not the icy, dreary January days so much but the first snow, being snowbound, bundling up by the fire … love it. I’m weird like that πŸ™‚

      MJ

      • i do like big snowfalls during the actual event…especially and night when the world goes quiet.

        it’s the shoveling i can’t handle

      • I know, it’s coming, I’m not ready, either.

We bit the bullet last year and hired a young guy with a truck & plow – he clears the driveway if we get more than a certain # of inches. Last year he only had to plow a few times but that $$ was so worth it!

  5. Ah! LOVE it! I am heading out next weekend up north to Camden (a very scenic touristy spot on the coast) and I hope to snap some fall pics then.

  6. I love Fall!!! The air is crisp and clean … the sky is bright and blue. The colors that paint the scenery are rich. Your pictures are excellent, as are your words.

    • you and me both are in love with Fall … As I drove along a meandering road through hills, valleys and trees, I couldn’t help but think, “People pay to come vacation here and I sure see why.” It was a photo opp the whole day and the happy news? Tomorrow I get to head out again!! Whee πŸ™‚ MJ

  7. I’m in love with fall, the colors, the soups, the sweaters, the crunchiness of the leaves…I’m so happy it’s here, but I am dreading winter a bit. But I need to remember to stay in the moment πŸ™‚

    • yep, the soup, the chili, the sweaters & layers and the leaves swirling, twirling down. Kids with rosy cheeks and an old dog who suddenly has a little zip in his step … ahh fall!

      MJ

  8. Great quote MJ…I agree a grand finale. It’s like fireworks color wise in this wonderful state and the Great Lakes as a back drop!
Great pictures, looks like you had an awesome drive!
    ~d.

    • I’ll bet it’s beautiful up your way, too, D. It was an awesome drive – I had coffee, tunes and all that glory to drink in — you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face and you can’t still.

Headed up to Mt. Pleasant tomorrow πŸ™‚
      MJ

  9. Beautiful photos…. and I, too, love the quote!

  10. Love the last sign, grateful for those who answer the call to protect us. They (and their families) pay an awfully high price. My, it is fall up there! Love the colors.

    • I agree. I saw it on my way into where I was going and I made it a point to note the location so that I could get a snap of it on my way back. Did a u-ball in a busy road and probably took a risk I shouldn’t have but that pic needed to be taken. Cheers!
      MJ

  11. Love the photos, MJ. This is, by far, my favorite time of year! Happy fall to you, my friend!
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • Indeed it is! It’s been an apple-cider-pumpkin-donut-leaves-swirling-kind of week. And I am off on another adventure tomorrow – beautiful blue skies, temps around 70 and colors, colors, colors. Whoop Whoop!
      MJ

  12. I love the colors of autumn! Gorgeous!

  13. I just LOVE, LOVE these photos! So beautiful and the perfect images of fall. I’ve been away from reading blogs for a while now. So what a great post to read this evening. Thank you!

    • I am so glad you enjoyed them … can you believe the pumpkin/bear one was taken on my Droid? Crazy!

Fall in Michigan has been absolutely spectacular, color-wise. Take care!
      MJ
