Frankie’s Fall Tour

Ola!

Approaching my 2-year-blogoversary next week (click here for my very first post!), I decided to, once again, feature our faithful furry friend, Frankie.  Frankie’s been featured here more than once and come to have his very own group of admirers.

Tuesday evening was windy and cool  – a typical fall mix of sun and shadows, gusts and more … and really, the perfect evening for a stroll with old dog.

I swear that dog has a clock: he stamps his paw and moans at lunchtime, he sits at the front door just before that big yellow thing drives by (school bus),  and he always, always waits in the same spot until I walk in .. half on the carpet, half on the kitchen floor.  And when I set my things down and reach to pet his fuzzy face, he wraps his paws around my wrists and loves me like no other.

He waited patiently as I laced up my runners and he twirled a few times when I put on my wind breaker.   Leaning down, I softly said the words he longed to hear: “Would you like to go for a walk?”    His happy smile and wagging tale told me the answer wasn’t just yes but I-can’t-believe-you-asked-me-and-of course-I’ll-accept-this-rose!

Come along with us, will ya?

1st stop, sniff at the neighbor’s house

Bum snags happen when you’re walkin’ like you mean it!

Almost home but these old hips need to rest a spell …

Squirrels schmirrels!

Total distance traveled: <1 mile.

Total # potty breaks: 18

Total # sniffs: 47

Total # tail wags: 354

Time with my aging pooch? Priceless

  1. Aw….what a sweet post! Thanks for taking us on Frankie’s walk. That 3rd pic belongs in a frame… Congrats on your 2nd blogaversary next week: we started blogging around the same time!

    • I think it should be framed as well … he was so tired after that walk, he immediately curled up in his condo and was snoring in minutes .. but he had a smile on his face 🙂

Yes .. we started around the same time .. neat hey? Have a great day, Dianna … MJ

  2. I love this post and all of the beautiful fall colors that greeted you and Frankie. And congratulations on the anniversary of your wonderful blog. We should cyber-celebrate!

  3. A beautiful walk with a best friend is a great way to celebrate. Virtual high 5’s and a hug on your October blogaversary.
Kinda missed the ole red truck in your header–ha, ha–I had to ask “Where did it go?”

  4. Little Things of Life

I enjoyed following y’all on your walk! The fall colors are a beautiful backdrop to your pooch photos. 🙂 I thought of you when I saw Canada’s Thanksgiving on my calendar. I know you are thankful for quality time with Frankie! Congrats on you bloggerversary!!! 😀

    • Glad you could come along!! Thank you for thinking of me at “Canadian Thanksgiving” .. I had a chance to chat with Mom before she took off to my sister’s for the big fun-filled family feast and she sounded perky and excited 🙂 Thanks for your kind words,
      MJ

  5. This is a beautiful post, and I love how sweet the description of him greeting you is. The photos are all wonderful, but the last 2 are particularly lovely. Congrats on your blog’s 2 year anniversary! 🙂

    • He really is the sweetest old soul. Last night, on our walk, we happened upon a group of young children playing in their driveway. We were on the opposite side of the road and a little boy, about 5, ran over to us.. .as he kneeled down to greet us, I said, “Hi would you like to pet Frankie?” and he he said, “Oh yes.” and as he wrapped his little arms around Frankie’s neck and kissed him softly on the head, he looked up at me and soulfully said, “I had a dog once, her name was maggie, she died.” Frankie patiently stood there as if he just knew that little one needed an old dog to love on. That’s the kind of dog he is – not jumpy, barky or bitey .. just a real gentleman. Thanks for visiting again, Dounia 🙂 MJ

      • Dounia

That’s such a sweet story. Thanks for sharing it, because it put a huge smile on my face and warmed my heart. He sounds like such a wonderful dog and makes me want to hug him too, so please give him a good pat and a hug from me 🙂

      • I did, I gave him and extra smooch and pet and some rotisserie chicken with his crunchies. He’s passed out by the front door now 🙂 MJ

  6. Oh, I love this post, MJ. What a sweet boy! Isn’t it funny what joy these little creatures bring to us. Frankie is a dear!
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • He is a dear; he’s easily the best dog I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a few. I don’t think we’ll have another after him; he spoiled us too much.
      Hugs back
      MJ

  7. mallory

He is in doggie paradise, and what a photogenic pup!

  8. The stats at the end gave me a very good laugh. You are correct, though. Those moments are priceless. It is good to see Frankie. The last shot is my favorite.

    • I knew other dog lovers/owners would “get” those stats. I swear we stop more than we walk – sniff, potty break, sniff again, stop .. wait – one more sniff .. then off we go. He’s such a good boy and he is loved very much,
      MJ

  9. Frankie is so sweet and charming. Isn’t it simply amazing how much joy and how many life lessons come to us through our furry kids?

    • I will tell him you said so; he is currently near the stove b/c Hubbs is cooking a pizza for the Tigers game later and he knows he has pizza crust in his future 🙂

      Fuzzy kids unite!
      MJ

  10. Ah, favorite things…fall, dog, leaves…all good! Thanks for sharing the walk! ~ Sheila

  11. LOVE the photos! Beautiful shots of fall and the doggy. And happy (almost) anniversary!

    • Thank you! It’s hard to take a bad photo around here at this time of year – and all of those photos were taken on my Droid! Frankie is pretty photogenic though 🙂 Happy day to you, Leah!
      MJ

  12. Yay Frankie! Dog posts are the best 🙂 Now I want to do a “Walk with Chewie” post, but I’m embarrassed to admit how much I let him stop. That dog will pee 87 times in two miles. Hard-ass won’t let him, but I will.

    • Frankie loves his walks. I long ago gave up on his walks being anything to do with fitness for me. They’re all about him, 87 potty breaks and all!!
      MJ
