Silent Magic

I admit it, I haven’t been feeling it. Not at all.

Especially after last week.

But I’ve had a little person around who can’t help but remind us of  the wonder of Christmas. Of taking pleasure in small things. Of enjoying all moments. Of taking nothing for granted.

And when I’m with her and her bright little self is snuggled up against me, I feel it, too.

“Christmas magic is silent. You don’t hear it—you feel it, you know it, you believe it.”Kevin Alan Milne, The Paper Bag Christmas.

  1. Children have a way of doing that, don’t they? I haven’t had a lot of Christmas spirit this year either, and I’ve heard several others say the same (even before last week’s events). We still have a few days left though…..shhhh…..I think it’s creeping up on me! Merry Christmas, MJ – just in case you get busy and we don’t “visit” again before next Tuesday.

  2. It’s been hard to get in the spirit for sure. My toddler is helping tremendously. Watching a little kid marvel at some simple twinkle lights has to stir up some happiness.

  3. Amazing how much children add to our lives, any time of the year.
Merry Christmas from our home to yours and all your readers too.

kids will do that. last night we watched some old videos of when the kids were younger…just adds a little kick to the atmosphere.

    • Absolutely! Watching the old videos takes us all back, as does having the little ones around now; the funnest part is watching our youngest boy with her – he’s transformed! So cute, MJ

  5. Children are our greatest hope…always

  6. There’s nothing like seeing the wonder of Christmas through a child’s eyes. Merry Christmas, MJ.

  7. Merry Christmas!

  8. To witness the true joy and simple pleasure of the holiday through a child is THE gift MJ…so glad for you.
Merry Christmas & may PEACE prevail.

  9. Beautiful picture! Merry Christmas!

  10. Children are so good at helping us remember how simple it all should be. Enjoy your snuggly, wonderful little one!

  11. I agree…I’ve felt secretly guilty…I wonder how we can go on celebrating with the knowledge that so many are devastated. Yet, realistically, I know that NOT celebrating the holidays does not bring back the lost. And the children, who certainly cannot understand the sorrow of the school tragedy, or other tragedies around all of us, deserve to have these years of innocence and magic in their lives. Maybe their joy can save us all. ~ Sheila

    • I couldn’t help but get swept up in their excitement … but like you, I had moments when I remembered those families and their despair. Tough, tough stuff.
