As a child, we used to chant this little ditty while playing in mud puddles on our way to the bus:
“Spring is sprung. The grass is ris. I wonda where ‘da birdies is.”
Here in Michigan, it doesn’t feel much like spring.
We just got another round of snow yesterday and parts of the state saw 18″ pile up.
So even though it should be time for birdies and grass and sunshine and warm breezes that tease of summer days, for one reason or another, those sure signs of spring areΒ slow a-coming.
So I give you this: Mama Kitty and her baby.
Why? ‘Cause even though the calendar says otherwise, their coziness reminds me that our long winter’s nap is not quite done.
Happy first day of Spring, peeps!
I think that’s about the sweetest thing I’ve EVER seen! Thanks for the early morning smile, MJ. Hope you have a wonderful day…AND that spring isn’t far away!
Dianna I had you in mind when I found that video clip π I’ve played it many times and it generates an “aww” every single time. Happy 1st Day of spring π MJ
Aw…thanks for thinking of me. That makes me smile….! π
cheers! MJ
Sweet π
Happy spring! I hope things warm up for ya!
We had multiple (pretty) snowfalls today — I lost count. There were squalls all day .. it was like winter whispered … “not yet.” MJ
Oh that is the cutest video! Thanks, and happy spring (spring thaw?)
The cutest! and happy spring to you as well π MJ
And back atcha!
Thanks! Spring will come soon enough .. and I, for one, hope we get a season of it .. not a rush into summer! MJ
Hey, I see our place on your weather map ! π Sure felt a lot colder than the 24 degrees we said we had. Hard to believe last year @ this time it was in the 80’s.
neat-o! I agree .. last year at this time we had a crazy warm spike and that nuked the plants here — many fruit crops didn’t recover b/c the warmth was followed by frost & snow π¦ MJ
MJ this is such a fun and wonderful remembrance of my Great Aunt Anna (aka Nanny)…she would always say this exact rhyme each year. She was also fond of saying “how now brown cow” It’s like a little cuddle from her to see this post, thanks.
*anna
Really? Neat .. I never knew where that saying came from π We picked it up along the way though. “How now, brown cow!” Another classic
Cheers, Anna!

That was so sweet! It’s been SO long since I had kittens around. Our first week of spring isn’t looking very spring-like, either. Boo! Maybe I’ll get those things finished inside the house that I’d hoped to do this winter.
We used to have a bundle of them every year and spent hours and days playing with them out in the barns… so darn cute. I hope your spring is a happy one π MJ
Whoa…it hit 90 degrees on Monday and then another cold front blew in last night. No ceiling fan on last night. Cute rhyme and absolutely adorable video clip. Fun to remember the things you never forget. Smiling over coffee this morning.
wow – 90? I don’t miss that early heat. I know we’ll get there but I am really hoping we get a season of Spring — mild days, rainy nights and a slow warming of the earth. Last year we had 80+ in March and that fluke damaged fruit & grape (wine) crops all around us b/c plants came out too soon then got snapped by another frost. π¦ I’m glad you’re smiling over coffee this morning, that makes 2 of us π MJ
Happy spring to you too MJ! Hopefully it will warm up there soon. It’s fluctuating here between 40 and 77 – cold one day and warm the next.
that’s quite a swing, Renee!! I’ll bet you almost have to dress in layers, right? π MJ
Spring is just around the corner… or so I keep telling myself. We’re having some pretty cold temperatures over here, considering the calendar says it should be warming up.
The mama cat and her kitten are just precious! Gave me some serious warm fuzzies.
yep — I see your weather and it mimics ours. Talked with Mom last night and it was howling & storming there, highways closed, etc. She was tucked in enjoying hockey. I couldn’t help but think of my brother and all his newborn calves .. and the struggle to get them in and out of that wind! March on the Calendar, January outside!!
Love that momma cat & her baby – snug as a bug in a rug.
MJ
