Another excellent adventure

Today’s the day.  The carpets are scrubbed, hotel welcome packs made.

Laundry’s done, supper’s in the crock pot and even old dog is shining.

all this cleaning is stressing me out!

all this cleaning is stressing me out!

Yes, a few last minute errands remain. But, for the most part, we’re ready.

Ready to welcome them in.

You see, my Mom & sister arrive today.

10 months ago, we’d never dreamed of a day like today.

No, at the time, we thought that was the end of future adventures.

But we were wrong.

I’ve written before about her determination and how she mothers;  I’ve written of the pinch felt when I long for my sister.

But today, today all of that will fall away.

Because today, when I stand in that airport waiting area I won’t be ashamed when the tears fall down my cheeks. I won’t care when I hear strangers say “aww.”  I won’t.  I will smile up at my guys and watch as they wipe their tears away, too.  And when my mother and sister appear, we will simply step forward and wrap them up in our love and thank them for coming to us.

And then — then the fun shall commence!

  1. Have fun!!!

    • Oh we will and then some! As much as I wanted the time to go quickly for them to get here already, I want it to slow down and crawl WHILE they’re here.

  2. Awww…!! I’m a little teary-eyed just reading about that upcoming reunion at the airport today. (And if I were to witness it in person, I’d be crying as hard as anyone!)
What a blessing that your Mom’s health has improved, so that she can travel. I know all of you will have a wonderful visit! How long will they staying?

    • Thank you, Dianna. If it helps, I cried writing it!

She’s doing better, not great, but nothing was going to stop her from this trip; my sister is an R.N. and will be hands-on, as much as Mom will let her, that is. They’re here till next Wed morning, sniff sniff!

      🙂 MJ

  3. Have a great visit!

  4. So sweet! Love your devotion to family and the way you share your feelings and joy to be with them. This is what family should be…no competition, no one-upping…just love and enjoyment of each other. Hope it is a wonderful visit! ~ Sheila

    • Thank you! We really do have a great time together and I know I will enjoy them very much. I also will enjoy seeing Mom with the grandsons & great grand children :). MJ

  5. Awww…and it’s only Thursday! TGIT. Have a wonderful time together. Your mom looks so proud and content to be sandwiched in by her girls. Beautiful family trio. I know Frankie will find his vim, vinegar and pep with all the excitement in the air.

    • Thank you, Georgette. You know how special those moments are :). Frankie is currently enjoying a pre-festivity nap 🙂

  6. Enjoy! Great picture of the three of you :-).

    • Thank you; Mom is usually smiley but she was squinting in that photo … there will be plenty of smiles and hugs and tears today!!

  7. Have a fun and amazing visit! Memories in the making xoxo

    • We will! I spent most of today running errands and setting up the mini bar/snack area in their hotel suite 🙂 Frankie helped me make a welcome sign! (not really, but he was underfoot so there you go). Off to the airport soon!

  8. Another excellent adventure INDEED
My mom and sister visited last week for 4 days and we walked and talked and ate and talked and hugged and ate
    Enjoy your time with family
    God Bless

  9. Oh, God bless you, MJ — and your mom and sister and all the family! What a treasured time this will be!! I pray your mom will feel strong and do well. I’m sure this visit will be a huge dose of good medicine for her!! Have lots of FUN!! =)

Teary eyes, especially JOYful teary eyes, are something many of us have in common! We probably all shed a few reading your blog this morning(!) ❤

    • Thank you, sweet pea. I think the visit and the time together will be both fun and tiring for her — but in a good way!

Lots of joyful tears coming, I’m sure 🙂

  10. Great pic MJ!

  11. Aw, I know how much you’ve been looking forward to this! I hope your time together stretches out wonderfully and you have loads of fun, time to talk, and much enjoyment of each other’s company.

    • Thank you; their flights were delayed b.c of storms so it was a late night. But — we still came back to the house, had a bite to eat and cracked a beer – many laughs! They’ll be sleeping in today, I’m on Eastern time, they’re on mountain .. so it will take a day or 2 to get adjusted. Pizza & Tigers Baseball later today 🙂

Thanks Terri, I know you get it!

  12. I’m so happy for you, MJ, and for your mom and sister, too. Enjoy!

  13. cooper

kewl. i hope the time together reeks of awesomeness.

  14. Hope you’re having a wonderful visit. And what a rare gift to soak in everything. I remember when I would visit my Dad, wondering if it would be the final one. Never had that luxury with Mom because she took her life. Luxuriate in every moment you have, as I know you are.
