Pure Michigan

Today, I’m happy to have a road trip.

Today, I’m even happier I can pack a healthy lunch to take with me.

Today, I’m headed to Saginaw, Michigan and no, there’s no major highways in sight.

Nope, I chose the more rural route.

I know it will take longer as there’s only two lanes for most of the way.

But that’s OK with me.

Because today I’m heading out to see farms and fields and Amish bread stands.Β  Seeders and tillers and market gardens.Β  Local country stores and farm trucks headed for town.

Today, I’m heading out .. to Pure Michigan.

Where are you headed today?

  1. To put out the recycle bin and watch the rain drops.

  2. Today I will watch the rain, suck down the Starbucks, eat unhealthy snacks and wait for the sun to come back. Have a great day!

  3. I headed out for breakfast with my two favorite men in the whole wide world: hubby and son!
Enjoy your trip – loved that ad for Michigan; it’s beautiful!

    • Nice! Breakfast is my favorite meal to go out for, too πŸ™‚ I’m sure you had a wonderful time … and yes, Michigan was beautiful. I lost count of all the barns I saw, Dianna, and I saw a few that would be perfect for your barn charm posts — they were charming and then some!!

PS I skipped the chain restaurants near the bigger towns and instead stopped at “Petticoat Junction” for supper:) Ordered an omelette the size of my head and will take the other 1/2 with me for lunch today – whee!

  4. nowhere…and that’s ok. It’s pouring rain. A good day to stay inside and work from home. I am grateful to be in a position to do so. I am grateful to be able to sit with the window open and listen to the rain through the trees.

  5. PS: have a great trip – i’ve done the same through the backroads of pennsylvania and it’s so centering…

    • centering — that’s exactly the word! I had a bunch of tunes ready but turned them off and listened to the silence and watched the green hills and lush valleys roll by — ahhh. MJ

  6. to the backyard to cut down a lilac bush (heavy snow story), then errands, then to (you guessed it) the ballpark!

I love getting off of the interstates as well. I ignored the GPS yesterday and took county blacktops through country that had spring corn, freshly cut hay, a grass strip airfield and plenty of relaxing scenery.

    Good for you. πŸ™‚

    • I hope your Lilac comes back … they often will πŸ™‚

Hope you had a great time at the ballpark .. your drive sounds just like mine … and it was wonderful πŸ™‚

  7. Love this MJ.

    • Thank you; a country drive was just what this farm girl needed…. I needed to get out and away so I could see for miles and miles. It resets my compass. πŸ™‚

  8. Just returned from a mountain jaunt that made me happy like your trip did you. Sure would like to taste Michigan berries right now :-).

    • Nice! Hope to see pictures πŸ™‚

I did stop and buy some beautiful asparagus from a road side gardener; can’t wait to try it tonight! MJ

  9. Your day sounds lovely. Mine will hopefully involve seeing some sunshine. We’ve been getting pounded with rain from Andrea. Yikes. The ground is soggy and the farmers are late getting their crops in the ground.

    • There were periods of light rain but mostly it was a peaceful drive through the lush countryside! Hope the sun comes out for you soon!
      MJ

  10. Oooh, did you get caught in all that rain? Hope it was good regardless of the weather.

  11. It’s the end of the day for me… so I’m going to bed! πŸ™‚

  12. Reblogged this on Lead.Learn.Live. and commented:
30 seconds. And this message has stuck with me all week. 25,000 Mornings. That’s all we have. Thank you MJ for this post and for your great blog. Have a great Hump Day.

I watch the pure Michigan ads with great pride as I was born and raised a Yooper. I’m heading home this summer and can’t wait to walk along the beaches of Lake Superior and eat a pasty.

    • I was in the UP for the first time this past December; I had a pasty and it was yummy! Beautiful, beautiful country πŸ™‚ Thanks for reading and commenting!
      MJ

  14. I hope you had a lovely trip!
Don’t you just LOVE the Pure Michigan ads lately? Pure Genius I say!
I think the Mackinaw Island and Traverse City ones are my two fav’s though I’ve not seen them all. πŸ˜‰
