My birthday’s come & gone. What lingers are the kind wishes, the sweet notes, the hilarious cards and the thoughtful presents.
Hubbs hosted a party for family & friends; some showed, a few didn’t. But the ones who did came to have fun and boy was it ever fun! We visited, we laughed, we teared up and we sang along. We ate, we drank, and we danced till our feet were sore and our faces hurt from laughing.
We enjoyed a meal together and later, there was cake. A huge cake. The kind of cake I like, the kind with the whipped frosting that’s more creamy than it is sweet. The kind of cake the old guys giggled over and ladies were heard saying “oh I really shouldn’t” as they did. The one that serves 90 but was decimated by 50.
I ate the cake because even though I don’t do that every day I’ve also grown to realize there are times in life when we should just stop all the fussin’ and enjoy what’s right in front of us.
Would you agree?
“A slice of cake never made anyone fat. You don’t eat the whole cake. You don’t eat a cake every day of your life. You take the cake when it is offered because the cake is delicious. You have a slice of cake and what it reminds you of is someplace that’s safe, uncomplicated, without stress. A cake is a party, a birthday, a wedding. A cake is what is served on the happiest days of your life.” ― Jeanne Ray, Eat Cake
Happy belated birthday, my friend! I love the quote, and it’s so true. Whipped frosting is my favorite too.
Wishing you many, many more happy birthdays and cakes!
Thank you; it was a really fun time and the cake was wonderful 🙂 Whipped frosting is the only way to go 🙂 MJ
50 is nifty… I can’t wait for December when I get to turn 50!!! I’ll have my cake gluten free with EXTRA butter cream frosting 🙂
Definitely!! Extra everything 🙂 MJ
Happy Belated Birthday, MJ!
Sounds like your special day was dreamy. A HUGE cake and dancing–what more could a girl ask for? I absolutely agree that a little cake never made anyone fat. I even sneak a piece of my own birthday cake the next morning. I love a little sugar with my coffee! 😉
It was – dinner and dancing, laughter and fun and a big chunk of cake with my coffee the next morning … late morning in the sun room 😉 Whee!
MJ
Sounds like a more than wonderful time. Happy belated Birthday!! And I absolutely love the sentiment of just eating the slice of cake and enjoying it!! Yes siree!
Yes it was — and let’s enjoy the cake and go on from there. Yes siree bob!

life without cake would be meaningless. happy birthday.
And pie. You can’t forget pie!
Thanks for the wishes, Coop.
MJ
Yes pie too!!
Yes, yes, and yes!
Belated Happy,Happy Birthday. The quote was exceptional. A quote that touches the soul and bring tears to the eyes.
Thank you, I thought that quote was just perfect, too 🙂 MJ
Birthday cake isn’t just cake. It’s special. Since I am not an icing person, whipped is the only way to go. Too bad I couldn’t join you. It sounds like a lovely time.
I agree; Birthday cake is definitely special. When I was a girl, it was a special honour to have Mom ask what kind of cake I wanted for my birthday. In a family of 7, it wasn’t like my opinion was solicited too often. I usually chose Strawberry shortcake (with Angel Food) OR Chocolate cake with a hard caramel icing … mmm. And cake was ALWAYS better with ice cream, still is 🙂
MJ
Happy belated birthday, my friend! I’m glad to hear you had such fun at your party.
Love the quote too. I read the book. It’s a good one!
Thank you, It was a good birthday and I had a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to the book 🙂 MJ

Happy belated birthday, MJ!
” … and ladies were heard saying “oh I really shouldn’t” as they did.” I love that line! We all need to have more of those experiences when we throw caution to the wind and just do what we want to do because it’s fun and good and delicious and not hurting a single thing except our own silly “rules.”
Thank you!!
I kid you not, I overheard two older aunties saying “Oh! I really shouldn’t” as they took HUGE forkfuls of cake and chortled. Best. Moment. Ever!
They gave me permission to settle in and enjoy the rich deliciousness of all my birthday had to offer – wheee !
MJ
Happy belated b’day! Sounds like it was worlds of fun…especially the laughing until tears rolled down your cheeks, the singing and the dancing.
Can’t believe the serendipity of this posted on my b’day.
Happy belated birthday to you, GS! Yes, it was a great birthday — all that and cake, too!
