Icing on the cake

Looking over the calendar, I was startled to see today’s date: November 5th.

November 5th marks one year in my “new” job.

The one that’s not new anymore.

In the past year I’ve grown a lot.  And the company has changed .. even more.

I’ve lost sleep, gained weight, puzzled through and sorted it out.

I’ve cleaned up, cleaned out, reorganized and restaffed.

I’ve led the team, sought input, and grown the people.

And I’ve been so perpetually busy that I’ve been too busy to take a day off.

One year ago we still had our Frankie.

One year ago we still had our friend.

Time passes.

Seasons come ’round again.

And life has a way of sneaking up on us.

Any milestones sneak up on you lately?

  1. Congratulations on one year of progress, reinventing and selling your team.
I think you know that in a year, I hope we’re in our new home and all the stuff will find its place there. And daughter #2 is finally returning home after five years on the west coast. T-Bob will turn 18 in January still spry enough to jump up and help himself for the occasional drink from the kitchen sink. A lot to look forward to.

    • So exciting that you have your daughter coming back “home” again, I know you will totally roll in that. Can’t believe ole T-Bob is 18 in January! WOW! And a move on top of everything; I feel like I’ve been “along for the ride” and appreciate your being along with me, too 🙂

  2. Precious photo in the header, MJ!

Yes, we had a milestone just last week, when it suddenly occurred to us on the 1st that we had been living in Ecuador for 6 months. SIX MONTHS! Hard to believe.

    Hugs from Ecuador,

    • He’s my handsome boy; I miss him sooooooo much!

I can’t believe you’ve been there 6 months; seems like a LOT less than that, doesn’t it? Time flies….

      Hugs from MI

  3. Sounds like a tough year. It’s funny what we use for milestones in our life. In our house we time events by “were in this house (moved here 11 years ago)?” or “did we have Jake (our 16 year old cat)?.”

    • In some ways, it has been a tough year. There’s been a some ups and quite a few downs … but we’re soldiering on.

I know what you mean by “were we in this house or THAT house when xxx happened?”

      Funny stuff!

  4. An odd milestone for me this week: Marshall’s dad (my ex) had his 70th birthday yesterday. 70th…..he was 28 when we began dating.

  5. Oh, and PS – he’s about 10 years older than me. (just for the record) 😉

  6. Life has passed so quickly….and Laddie’s birthday was November first…All Saint’s Day. I remember when you were promoted! Seems like yesterday.

  7. We had two weddings this Summer, and just last week found out we now have 2 new grand babies on the way 🙂 Neither of them wasted any time on that front. Wife told me one morning this week this is the closest she’s felt to me in our 34 yrs of marriage, I’m thinking that might count for a milestone. We’ve also had our share of heartache the past 12 months, so that made her statement even more powerful. Thanks for asking.

    • Whoop on both fronts — 2 new babies to welcome and the coziest feeling possible: the wife bearing her heart & soul to you. Women only do that when we feel safe & loved, you know. You’re doing something right, DM!

  8. You’ve been busy, had some ups and downs and have navigated some of life’s biggest challenges. Congratulations on surviving and growing through all of it!

As I read this, I realized how similar our paths have been the past year, especially in regards to jobs and pets. I realize how supportive you’ve been of me through all of my “stuff” and hope you know that I am behind you every step of the way too.

    • Aw, thank you, Terri. I always think of you with work/personality challenges and when I try to express the deep love I had for my furry friend; I know you always get it.

Thank you for being along for the ride, I appreciate you!

  9. It has been quite a year, hasn’t it? It’s tough when there are such highs and lows. Hang in there. It’s almost 2014!

    • yeah … came home to many cars across the street. A long-time neighbor has passed on; great lady and a real fixture in the neighborhood.

      Seasons …

      Thanks, Leah!
