Random Five Friday … in February

It’s Friday, whoop whoop!  Time for 5 random thoughts from the house of MJ. Here we go.

1.  Sunshine.  A miracle occurred earlier this week – the clouds disappeared and the sun came out and me & my office mates chitter-chattered like squirrels.   For about 42 minutes, it was glorious.  The end.

2.  Roof rakes.  Ever heard of this?  Invented no doubt by a hearty mid-westerner, this cool little contraption allows the user to rake the snow off the roof.  In a burst of brilliance, I gave it a go one day last weekend.  I’m 5’2″, the roof is roughly 400′ in the air.  It worked great till I reached one of the highest points where the rake’s head popped off and stayed .. on the roof.  Lucky for me, youngest kid witnessed my debacle and his 6’3″ self came to my rescue.  I put it back together, wiped the snow off and went back in the house where I belong.  The end.

This isn't me or my house. This is Shirl in St. Paul having a grand old time with her roof rake. 3.  Winter Olympics!  Curling! Skiing! Skating! Hockey! I feel like I’m back in the Motherland.  And is there anyone ever more excited than a figure skating announcer?? Triple-double-salchow- he NAILED IT!  I dig the Winter Olympics and I’m not afraid to say it. The end.

Curling is my sentimental favorite, although we were never quite as colorful as the Norwegian Curling Team is!! google.images

4. Chores.  Chores – getting gas – groceries – everything – is more difficult in winter.  Hubbs and I divided & conquered yesterday. He stopped and purchased and hauled in all the heavy stuff that’s hard for me to do (paper products, cases of water, canned goods, frozen foods etc) and I made a “produce” run on my way home; produce derails him every time. We’re feeling like geniuses and it only took us 23 years to learn this!  The end.

5. 41 days till Spring. Technically anyways. Last year we had snow in April but  I’m not going there right now.  Just 41 days, peeps.  The end.

  1. Love your random 5….especially the saga of the snow rake!!! Love the line: “I put it back together, wiped the snow off and went back in the house where I belong.”!
Hoping to watch some of the Olympics. I tried last night, and somehow, couldn’t really get into it. Felt so sorry for the American figure skater; he definitely had an off night. I love the figure skating…..
Love that you and hubby share the chores; that always makes things easier!
    Enjoy your weekend, MJ!

    • Sometimes you have to know when to hold ’em … and know when to fold ’em!! I folded and went back inside 🙂

Love the Winter Olympics and enjoyed the opening ceremonies, too 🙂 MJ

  2. I have a Starbucks in my hand, watched the Olympics last night, finished my errands already (it’s 10 a.m.!), going out to dinner tonight with friends so no cooking (woo hoo) and the sun is shining. Enough said!

  3. I’m giggling at “his 6’3″ self came to my [his 5’2″ mom’s] rescue.” What a gentleman. Is his dad that tall?
Your litany of “The ends” tells me you’re ready for this winter to be over.
Can’t wait for 7:00 PM CST to get on with the Olympic coverage!!!

    • He had a good laugh but yes he indeed came to my rescue 🙂 Both boys are taller than their 6′ Dad however he still rules the roost!

I’m ready for a hint of spring, we’ve had daily snow for about 200 days it seems…. and the Opening Ceremonies were enchanting, I thought.
      Cheers!
      MJ

  4. Glad to hear you all got some sun. And I had NEVER heard of a roof rake. Sounds like a great invention. Have a wonderful weekend, MJ, and stay warm.

    Hugs from Ecuador,
    Kathy

  5. I was thinking about you last night during the Olympics coverage. They kept talking about the skaters training in Michigan. Your roof rakes are proof as to why. You never hear of those winter Olympians training down south, now do ya? No roof rakes necessary. Must come north to learn to ice skate, although there are a few ski resorts in the mountains about fifty miles north of where I live. I have tried skiing. That’s a whole blog post full of incidents.

    • Yep, there is that. I’ve never seen snow like we have here. The first winter we lived her, I kept taking pictures. Everyone was like, “aren’t you from Canada originally?” and all I could say was “yeah .. but my part of Canada wasn’t like this – holy Snow!”

I’ll look forward to your future skiing posts 🙂

      MJ
