Random five Friday and it’s all right

The last Friday in February! Wow, here we are.  Seemed like 2 weeks ago it was … Christmas.

Here are my random 5’s for today:

1.  A week ago I wrote about Eagles & Crows. The next day, out of the blue, I received a highly complimentary email from a top executive in my company about a project I’ve led and excelled at.  The best part?  The crow was copied on it.   Karma!    🙂

2.  I started to complain about today’s -9F temps when I saw this snapshot from my homeland in Saskatchewan, Canada.  I stopped right then and there.

Yes it's in Celsius but at -40, Fahrenheit and Celsius ARE the same!

Yes it’s in Celsius but at -40, Fahrenheit and Celsius ARE the same!

3.  Today, I’ve loaded up the Jeep with my tunes and coffee and the Garmin and am off to points North for meetings with community leaders and business owners.  Next to solving problems, this is the part of my job I love most.  Why?  It’s different every time. I get out of the office, I meet new people, develop relationships and stretch myself.  It’s good. Real good.

4. Did I mention the tunes?   Road trips mean I can put the Mp3 player on shuffle and see who pops on.   Heard this the other day, and it’s been all right ever since.

5. It’s Friday.  And I’m ready for it!!

amen to that!

amen to that!

What song makes you want to crank up the volume and sing?

  1. Gotta love that Karma!
Safe travels today. I wasn’t familiar with the Traveling Wilburys, but that is a cool song. I can just imagine you “boppin'” down the highway, singing your little heart out!
    Have a good day, MJ!

    • I love that song and yes I played it on Friday – a couple of times 🙂 it was a great day for a drive, sunny and bright, the roads were (mostly) clear and the tunes were cranked 🙂

  2. I’m a big U2 fan but first song that came to mind was this one: Looking @ the temps from your home stomping grounds…whoa…you come from hearty stock! great to hear all the good stuff happening on the job front. DM

    • PS if you dodecide to listen to that link/ wait till you hear him nail the high note @ 3:52 😉

      • I did have a listen and that was a great rendition of a Toto classic 🙂 definitely a good sing-along-song. I like U2 also, but oddly enough, I don’t have any of there stuff – thanks for the prompt !

  3. Loved, loved, loved the Traveling Wilburys! I have their CDs but hadn’t seen this video. I was touched by the chair with the guitar on it. I assume it’s a tribute to Roy Orbison, one of the originals. Gotta love karma! Makes it all better!

    • I agree about the chair; and do feel it was a tribute to Roy. What a voice he had, hey?

Love that video & the song! And Karma — hee hee hee — good stuff

  4. Giggling here. Just commented to husband Rick, “Look at these guys who look like George Harrison and Bob Dylan. They’re called the “Traveling Wilburys” but I’ve never heard of them.” His answer: “uh…maybe because that is George Harrison and Bob Dylan.”
Congratulations on your recognition…it just makes me feel all good inside like your comment at Dianna’s site this morning.

    • It’s fun to see them at that time in their life with the long hair 🙂 Did you see the empty chair for Roy? Loved it.

Thank you for your kind comments; it felt great to be recognized but it felt even better that the crow had to eat some … crow. HA!

  5. “Muskrat Love” by the Captain and Tennille”…I could rock to that all NIGHT!! 😉 No seriously…I’ve always liked “Ah Leah” by Donnie Iris….or ZZ Tops “Sharp Dressed Man” with its haunting guitar solos. Bob Segar’s “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” is a real toe-tapper too. Good tunes make a routine road trip into an excellent day.

As for Karma…I’m happy that your “crow” had to eat some crow!! Recently I found out that the coach who F-bombed me and threw a fit last summer at the end of one of my games (I made the right call on a rule that he didn’t know about) was censored for what he did and that, that whole program was told to “knock it off”. My baseball umpire boss said that he got up in front of the coaches recently for their pregame league meeting and brought up that incident by saying “one of our best umpires was forced into a situation last season that he should never have been put into in the first place….”. It took nine months for me to hear that I was in the “right” and that he was disciplined for his outburst….but it made me feel vindicated.

    • Oh I love that turn of events for you, RR. 9 months yes but so worth it when it all came together in YOUR defense = yay!!!

Sharp Dressed Man is a great treadmill warmup song, it’s on my playlist. Can’t say the same for Muskrat Love though – you crack me up !!

  6. I love the Traveling Wilbury’s and that is just one of the great songs from their two albums.

  7. Love all of this! Bangin’ on the LOVE button

    • Thank you, David, it was fun to write. No pressure on a Friday, gotta love that 🙂 Off to DC in the morning … whoop!

  8. I doubt I could drive without tunes. I sing to anything I know the words to. Everyone else should be glad my windows are up and the sunroof closed. I’ve been reliving my childhood and beyond with the Bee Gees lately.

  9. Well, congratulations on the job-well-done email. That must have made you feel awesome. Gotta love karma. Also, you sound a lot like my Sara. She loves problem solving, especially meeting with groups and helping them resolve complicated issues. You all would have a lot in common. Enjoy your road trip, and stay warm!

    Hugs from Ecuador,

    • it is always nice to be recognized but even better when its sincere and not provoked (the person who sent it had nothing to gain by doing so … ) I think we would have lots to talk about if we all got together for dinner, Kathy!

      Bests to you in Ecuador

  10. Congratulations on your job well done! I’ll bet you’re one of the strongest members of your team!

Love driving with music I know and can sing to! Of course, that works best when I’m driving alone 🙂 Can’t say that others appreciate my talents as much as I enjoy a good sing-a-long! Sounds like it was a fun Friday!

    Stay warm! ~ Sheila

    • Thank you; I saved the email AND printed it off where I can re-read it on not-so-great days 🙂

Road trip today = more tunes. Whoop! MJ

  11. I LOVE that the crow was copied on the email singing your praises! Way to go!
