Another Friday and another week has flown by. A few things were different this week, though. Ready? Here we go:
1. It’s April. I think. It was close to 60F Monday, 32F with gale-force winds on Tuesday, 30 & snow flurries Wednesday, 40 then 30 with freezing rain yesterday and today? 30-something with a 100% “chance” of rain. I don’t know about you, but when the weather guy says “100%” the word “chance” probably shouldn’t follow it.
2. I worked out Sunday-Mon-Tues and Thurs. Yes, I skipped Wednesday. Why? My job took all my “mojo” and at my age, I know when to push it and when to not.
3. Wednesday was “Grandparent’s day” at our grand-daughter’s preschool. It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was visiting our boys’ classrooms so to have another little person coming through feels surreal. And wonderful. 🙂
4. Playing with MJ and her friends, and taking in their excitement, took me back to my playground days. Freeze Tag, Olly-Olly-Oxen-Free, Red Rover, Dodge-ball and of course … our endless swing competitions. I wonder if kids are even allowed to “pump” the swing and fly as high as possible anymore?
5. For the first time in 29 years, Mom and I are spending Mother’s Day together! Of course I’ve been back many times in all those years, but we’ve not spent that holiday together since …I became a Mom. Just 34 more sleeps and I’ll be on a plane towards home … a week on the farm hanging out with her sounds absolutely grand to me. Excited? Why, yes I am.
Happy Friday, peeps!
Early April is unpredictable here too. Yesterday was gorgeous. Today is damp and rainy. Tomorrow who knows! My granddaughters live in Colorado and I live in PA so I won’t ever have that simple pleasure of going to one of their school events (unless it’s graduation!). Lucky you! Have a great weekend.
Maybe sometime you plan a trip out there around a school event? 🙂 It was great fun to go and especially to see the big smiles on her wee face!

Loved this blog, especially…”selective participation”. Going to have to use that!!
I used to jump out of swings, and hay mows and off fence posts and other things. Somehow I didn’t break anything.
R
Me too — jumped from hay lofts, bale forts, off farm equipment, from swings and merry-go-rounds – you name it. Didn’t break anything, either!

Love #4! I remember flying out of swings and then my ankles would sting, but that didn’t keep me from doing it over and over again. Thanks for the memory. Loved it.
Check out this story from your home province, I believe. Loved it…I know, I said the same thing about #4. 🙂

I did read that story, neat hey? MJ
You know, I forgot about the ankle sting but – you’re right — totally would happen and especially if the ground was hard. Remember that? Ouch .. but totally worth it.
Now, if I get on the swings, I get vertigo and nearly throw up. Not kidding. It’s a bummer and makes me feel ancient 🙂

Well…..we both have our Random Fives…..but Nancy’s not hosting this week (she’s on spring break!). I never thought about it before, but you’re right: 100% should NOT be followed by “chance”!
Love that little MJ was excited to show you around her classroom.
Happy weekend, MJ!
Awe..I love it.. you get to be with your mom on mothers day. No matter how old I am, that part of me that feels like a little kid kicks in whenever I walk into my parents home. Hope you have great time with your mom. Do any of your sisters live close by to her? Guess I’m wondering if you will all be able to be together? make sure you post a picture when you get back 😉 DM
I agree; I like a dark, quiet room – hubbs likes the tv on and noise. I told him the other day that I never sleep as well anywhere as when I go home to Mom’s — when you turn off the light in my old bedroom, you’d better know the path to the bed b/c it’s so dark you really can’t see your hand in front of your face :). Mom has a few night lights on now, but in her room, not mine, and when I bury myself into those old quilts … wow it’s like being in a cocoon again!
My brother & wife life on the same farm, my sister Pat lives about 1/4 mile away, my oldest brother lives about 2 miles away and one more sister is about 25 min away. We will all be together on Mother’s Day for a brunch I’m putting together 🙂 Hoping for some pictures …
Cheers!

You’re right about “chance.” So glad you get to spend Mother’s Day with your mom. We would probably not be allowed on the playground today. We climbed the swing bars, balance beamed across the see-saw support, and some of the boys rode the merry-go-round with nothing but their hands hanging on.
and the 100% chance thing – never happened. We had rain – for about 30 min and the rest of the day was cold and damp — gooffy!
We had a big wooden merry go round that I swear was a death trap – the bigger boys would get it racing so fast that the little kids would nearly fly off it. Scary but thrilling, all in one! And I remember the teeter-totters, too, as well as the balance beam — we were lithe like monkeys then. If I did it now I’d surely pull or sprain something 🙂
Happy Sunday!
MJ
I bet your Mom is tickled pink! I’ll call. LOL
please do, I’ll try not to have my head in a freezer this time. I’m there 5/8 for 7 days 🙂
MJ
Hey, loved your list! I like selective participation too…some days I work out, and others I just look at Pinterest images and think about doing it 🙂
Good for you and your mom that you’ll be together for the big day! Sounds like you’re planning a very meaningful gathering with your family…always good to mark the moment, isn’t it?
Happy Spring! ~ Sheila
Thank you, love the list, too!
We are looking forward to being together, finishing sentences, starting new ones and hugs good night 🙂
