Random May Friday

1. Took a road trip yesterday!  Every sign pointed to “don’t bother” – my desk was calling, calls were scheduled, but I went anyway.  Why?  Getting out of the office and into the sunshine is good for the soul.  B/c of the respiratory infection I’ve been battling, I had to hum instead of sing, all so I could “save” my voice for the meeting. I joined in, offered a few comments but mostly, I just listened.  Not talking gave me the opportunity to really hear a few who were a bit worked up.   Listening turned the situation around, and by the time I left, they had a new & different perspective on me and my company.  Whoop!

just listen

2.  Called each of my staff last night and told them to plan on leaving today around 3 pm.  Hubbs is golfing, I’m going to stay at the office and finish up some things, and they might as well get a jump on the Holiday weekend.  Not one of them turned down the offer and their reactions just made me grin.

3.  Our weather in Michigan has finally turned and I think we’ve fast-forwarded through spring and into early summer.

So happy my lilacs are blooming!

4. Frankie loved that Lilac tree and was a regular sniffer of it. He sniffed in and under it, and usually came back to the house covered in blossoms.  He also loved the Peonies that bloom nearby. Once those are blooming, we will scatter his ashes throughout that bed.  Ferdinand-the-Frankie dog would have loved that and I think the chipmunks will notice his return.

5.  I plan to indulge in a healthy round of NCD this weekend and I hope you do as well!

I hope you get some "no can do" time this weekend!

Happy Memorial Day!

  1. #4…found him! Have a great weekend.

  2. Lee Greenwood’s song really says it all. Love your story remembering Frankie and the lilacs. Have a lovely Memorial Day weekend.

    • Same to you, GS, and please don’t stress out too much on the move!! I’ll look forward to your updates from the farm 🙂

  3. The pie is gone! Maybe it will make a comeback sometime. I saw Frankie in the pic. Reminds me of the pictures I have of my cat Jake in the catnip bush. All you see is his backend but he is very happy!

  4. Aw….love the lilacs….and bittersweet about your Frankie and scattering his ashes…..
You’ll be seeing that lyric/quote from Lee Greenwood again on my blog Monday!
    Have a GREAT weekend, MJ!

    • Yeah, I still miss old dog. My brother asked, “So did you get another dog yet?” and I said, “No I really didn’t think I could right now” and his quiet response said it all, “I don’t think I could NOT .. have a dog.” He’s a big teddy bear with a huge love of animals. But, once I explained that we got Frankie when the boys were small and I worked at home and now all that’s changed .. he understood. Kind of.

Have a great weekend yourself! MJ

  5. Great random list! I particularly like the grinning dog and the lilacs! I always associate our time in MI with lilacs…love that fragrance! Have a great long weekend, and I hope you get back to full singing voice soon! Can’t fully enjoy a road trip unless you can sing along with all your favorites 🙂 ~ Sheila

    • Hi Sheila! Thank you 🙂 I love that grinning dog – ha!! The lilacs are simply gorgeous and I can finally SMELL Them, too – whoohoo!!
had a steroid shot yesterday so my voice is a little bit better now .. maybe I can sing along tonight when I make dinner.

      Happy weekending 🙂 MJ

  6. Way to make the best of dealing with your virus while attending the meeting! You always seem to find the positive in any situation.

So glad to see that your weather is warming up too. The warmth and the color is such a welcome change after such a challenging winter.

I’m a lover of lilacs. Yours are beautiful. And what a wonderful resting place for Frankie, in the peonies.

    • Thank you, Terri. It was a nice “escape” to get out of the office and into the sunshine and not being able to talk forces me to listen more, a skill I am always trying to hone!

I do think Frankie will love his new spot, just waiting on the peonies now … give your silly Lucy Pie a hug from me, another doggie lover!

PS – there’s a gal in my office who’s room-mate sometimes stops by with their dog, they’re trying to socialize her, or so they say. Everyone there loves dogs so no one minds when this wiggly little ball of fluff flies through the office. She’s become the office dog, and she wiggles like your Lucy. Makes me smile, that’s for sure

      MJ
