Realizations and ropes

So there I was last week – attending a meeting with colleagues and others, many with impressive titles and backgrounds, certainly more impressive than yours truly.

Knowing the business but still not connecting the dots, I puzzled at attending said meeting.

But as I listened and took notes, I found myself leaning in, participating and nodding in agreement.

I watched another leaning away, slipping out and shaking his head.

At the last minute the presentation he planned to give was punted to me – the one I’d written and researched.

It was then that I saw it.

Bluster and blather will only carry you so far ~ and sometimes the one needed at the table is the one who knows the fluff from the floor.

“A dame that knows the ropes isn’t likely to get tied up.”

Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? How did you handle it?
