Quiet islands

I read once that a Sunday well-spent brings a week of content.

shh_Sunday

I completely agree.

However – having taken Friday off – I actually had Sunday .. yesterday.

Waking to a quiet house – hubbs golfing and youngest boy working – I poured my coffee and took a seat in the screened-porch.Β  Listening to the birds chirp and caw, I reveled in the peace and quiet.Β  Later I meandered back inside to a stack of magazines and let the sunlight warm me as the page flipping began.

When it was time to dress for an evening meal out with friends, I felt as rested and restored as a day at the spa might bring .. without the cost.

I don’t know what all this week has in store for me but I am thankful to have had two Sundays ahead of it.

Do you keep a small part of a Sunday for yourself?

  1. I hope your Sunday feeling lasts all week, M.J.

  2. The best part of retirement is that any day can be a Sunday. You just have to make it so.

  3. You are on fantasy island!

  4. Such grand serenity in your words! I love it. On a funny note, this instantly made me think of what one of the now retired men on the Budweiser West Coast Hitch was known to say from time to time, “Every night is a Friday night and every morning is a Monday morning. πŸ˜‰

  5. You are transmitting peace signals through the blog-us-fear emjay! I love the idea that a good Sunday forecasts a good week. And I love your photo of the practicing cat too. πŸ™‚

  6. absolutely keep a rather big chunk of it for myself..starting with an after lunch nap, and usually a very unstructured afternoon.

  7. Hubby went to the botanical garden with me, and I got to show him some of the new (to us) trails I’d found. We try to make Sunday a restful day.

  8. I did nothing but sit on the back porch. I watched squirrels and crows break open green pecan shells! Caught them in the act…no action on my part…it was so nice to breathe and decompress and claim Sunday afternoon as mine.

  9. Sundays, for me, are usually spent desperately trying to tackle everything that needs doing before Monday shows up again. I have an awareness that I should make an effort to slow down some, but I just always have too much to do to test it out! πŸ™‚

    • Well, there is that. I think that is why I often take a Friday off – at least once every 6 weeks or so … Otherwise my Sat is jam-packed and my Sunday is spent being exhausted πŸ™‚ MJ
