It’s Friday and time for 5 random thoughts ~ here we go:
1. Last night I stopped for groceries ahead of the weekend. Why? Those cute lil’ Cub Scouts who camp there on Saturdays, that’s why. They’re adorable, irresistible and I am absolute putty in their hands. Yes, I dodged them and fully admit it. Please forgive me.
2. Have a couple of friends going through trying relationships of late. It’s hard to witness because sometimes, as an “outsider,” you can see things the person “inside” cannot. Doesn’t mean you can say anything though.
3. We’ve had cooler temps lately but loads and loads of sunshine. I don’t know about you but the sun shining just makes everything happier, brighter … and better.
4. My cordless phone battery died. You know the one that made us feel so “with it” cause we weren’t tethered anymore? Well here’s the kicker: no one sells cordless phone batteries now. I can find a replacement online but .. is this a sign that people really have dropped the land line? I still have the (now-ancient) plug-in-the-phone-jack-and-work-without-batteries-phone. When our power goes out and the cable/phone modem is kaput, it still works. Hmm … perhaps the cordless phone is out and the land line remains!
5. Heard this song in an airport recently and I’ve been playing it ever since. Check out Michael Franti & Spearhead singing a happy Reggae-inspired “Say hey I love you.”
And how was your week? Dodged any cute kids lately? Any relationship advice to share? How are the temps in your neck of the woods? Do you still have a land line? Are you digging any new tunes of late? Do tell!
It’s still 90 degrees and full summer, except the days are shorter. Tempers are just a tad short, too. Everyone wants some coolth. As for that landline — I finally got rid of mine, but I still think about reinstituting it. Its great value? When you’ve evacuated for a hurricane, you can call your home number, and if the answering machine picks up, you know the power is back on and you can go home!
That’s a great point about the hurricanes & landlines ~ I loved living in Texas but do not miss that crazy/fierce weather! MJ
Wow, the tree photo is amazing. I must admit to missed the changing seasons. Weather here is amazing but just not the same.
We have a landline here in Cuenca, as well as VERY dumb cell phones! LOL
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, MJ!
Hugs from Ecuador,
Kathy
I love fall. It was a big part of moving north for me 🙂
“very dumb phones” – laughed out loud!
Cheers~ MJ
Love, love, love the song! Now it’s a worm in my head! We will always have a landline (so the husband has decreed) because of power outages unless they come up with something better. I admit it. I dodge Girl Scouts selling cookies. We don’t eat them. I’d rather just donate money and not get the calories! Love the apple header.
I’ve played that song at least 10 times since I heard it – fun stuff.
I don’t eat the GS cookies, either, and yes I’d rather donate $ and not take home anything 🙂
The apple header was taken on my smartphone on the way back from a meeting – stopped at a farm market & had to “snag” it! MJ
Will not give up the landline and the outage factor is one of the reasons! (Also, I probably live in the past a lot!)

You and me both, Marsha! 🙂 MJ
I know what you mean about cute boyscouts being irresistible.
I have been known to just give a donation and not take the popcorn 🙂 They are so stinking cute and they always (strategically) put the littlest cutest ones out front! Augh – I have no hope!! MJ
We’ve had a pretty week – just a few leaves are changing color so far. I’ve heard that song before; it’s catchy! Enjoy your weekend!
Definitely a catchy song – have a great weekend & enjoy your colors, too 🙂 MJ
Sunday seems to be my grocery shopping day and I haven’t been able to avoid those Boy Scouts. I just say no thanks and don’t feel guilty. No one can accuse me of not supporting our schools and youth activities. I can’t support ’em all and I’m not a fan of popcorn. Especially really pricey popcorn. Now if those Boy Scouts start selling chocolate or cookies, I’m in trouble.
I refuse to give up my land line, though I’ve found if the batteries die, it’s probably just as easy and no more expensive to just buy a new cordless phone. It’s been a few years though. Maybe you can’t even find a new cordless phone?
Heard that Michael Franti song for the first time a few years ago and had the same reaction. It’s been a while since I heard it and it was fun to sit and listen again as I left you a comment! Happy Saturday, MJ!
I hear you and I have tried that strategy but always feel bad. Sometimes I just donate $ and don’t take anything home 🙂
I did find a battery store that sells them but I forgot to bring my phone battery with me – turns out there are about 60 different varieties. Who knew? You make a good point – buy a new one and call it good!
I love that song – it’s peppy and light-hearted — Here’s to the weekend!!
MJ
Hey, I love that song! You’re right, so peppy. Had it on my play list for a while. I find new music through Pandora, love that site for that purpose!
Relationships! I saw that quote on Pinterest and it’s perfect for so many situations. You’re right, hard to watch from the outside.
Haven’t had a land line in about 6 years…only missed it a couple of times when the local AT&T tower was down and I couldn’t get a cell signal for a few hours.
My week was crazy busy with the move…still getting settled in our temp apartment, but this morning I just had to take some time out for myself and do a little catching up.
Beautiful fall photo! ~ Sheila
Thank you for visiting and for your insights ~ I am glad you are getting settled into your new digs 🙂

Had a great vacation week! The color in your trees is wonderful! Ours are turning, slowly but surely–and wafting on the breeze. We try to dodge the Girl Scout cookies and popcorn Scouts. Hubby now just gives them a donation and we don’t have to eat the goodies! We still have a landline, and probably will until we have to replace the house alarm system with one compatible with cell phone notification.
Thank you so much; I had a nice break and ended up working a bit on the weekend.
Hubbs went grocery shopping and he encountered the Cub Scouts ~ he loves caramel popcorn so he’s $20 poorer 🙂
I might always have a landline … not sure I’m 100% sold on cell phone only when I live in an ice storm/power outage area … MJ
