It’s Friday! It’s Random! Time for five random thoughts.
1. 48 shopping days left till Christmas. I know, I thought the same thing: why rush it? First of all, Thanksgiving is next. We’ll gather together and enjoy my favorite meal. There’s no gifting stresses and no mess to clean up. And – everything tastes even better the next day. I’ll have pie with my coffee, read blogs and shop online, and avoid the madness that is Black Friday.
2. Switching the radio from a steady stream of political ads last week, I stumbled upon Christmas music. On two stations! Sorry Frosty, not yet.
3. I love corn. Corn-on-the-cob, kernel corn with butter and black pepper, creamed corn and of course, popcorn. I love corn. For the most decadent creamed-corn recipe possible, head on over to Leah’s place. It’s been part of our holiday meals since 2011 :).
4. The local radio station asked listeners to share their quirks. Example: the DJ said he always puts on his to-go coffee cup lid so it’s pointed away from the seam. All I could think was, “Doesn’t everyone?” I do have a coffee quirk, though. After I pour it, I microwave it for 30 seconds. I like my coffee hot. Not burn your thigh off hot, just hot. Yep, I might be quirky, too.
5. Saw this and laughed out loud. Pretty sure you will, too. Have a great day, friends:
And how was your week? What are some of your quirks? Do you love corn, too?
great week. Staying on top of work pressures in spite of the colder weather patterns. I’ll pass on the corn. You can have my serving 😉 DM
thank you! I’ll take it 🙂 Glad you are keeping up on everything ~ colder weather brings its own challenges.

Biggest pet peeve… Christmas stuff in the store before thanksgiving!!
I love Christmas but I like to savor it .. not have it coming at me from all angles 🙂 MJ
I like my coffee black even after I say, “A black tall coffee.” Then, if they speak Spanish, I say “solo, gracias.” No cream, no sugar. hmmm…I will have to check out Leah’s recipe. Rick loves creamed corn…me, not so much.
Hubbs likes black coffee, too. I can drink it that way in a desperate moment but prefer with cream. I love how you order 🙂
Leah’s creamed corn recipe is making my mouth water just thinking about it! MJ
A cup of coffee and a blog from MJ suits me fine.
And I thank you for visiting, Butch Dean! MJ
I immediately checked my Starbucks cup and the seam was opposite the opening. Coincidence or is that the way to do it? I will check it tomorrow. Our weather has been so mild (great fall!) that the holidays seem to be coming too fast. All that should change this weekend with the arctic vortex making a visit. Our family loves corn too — fritters, cornbread, and I put it in salsa too. Yum!
Oh I forgot about corn in salsa – yum and yes!
Please report back on your Starbucks seam/lid placement – one would think that the “experts” have it right? 🙂 MJ
Nope. Today’s lid is off by 45 degrees.
Gah! I bought a Chai Tea latte from Starbucks yesterday and the lid was perfectly placed – so between us we got 1 out of 2. 🙂 MJ
Yes, I do love corn!!
Love your list of randoms, and I’m just not ready for Christmas yet….
Enjoy your weekend!
Yay – a fellow corn lover. I also love corny jokes 🙂 MJ
I like corn, but not as much as you do. I’d pass on the cream corn and cornbread (though you didn’t mention that). I’m pretty sure my lid goes on the same way. LOL at the little “reminder.”
the funny thing is I am not a cornbread fan – it’s a texture thing for me 🙂 MJ
Agree, agree…no Christmas yet, love corn, hot coffee, and the reminder thing…too funny! ~ Sheila
yes yes and yes — the reminder was classic 🙂 MJ
I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving too. I’m hosting this year – in spite of my previous insistence that I was done hosting family gatherings! 😛 One sibling and his family have other plans and won’t be joining. I’m relieved! 🙂
I heard Christmas music in a few stores while out shopping last weekend! I too thought it was much too early. Let’s enjoy fall and Thanksgiving before we let Christmas take over the rest of the year.
I love corn on the cob. I appreciate frozen kernal corn. Not such a fan of canned corn of any variety, especially creamed corn. But my hubby loves that creamed stuff. Maybe for his sake, I’ll check out the recipe!
Have a great weekend, MJ!
I’m so glad you are looking forward to it this year 🙂 And based on what you’ve shared, I think I know that the one not attending is one that tends to cause friction. Here’s to a friction-free family festivus 🙂
I love Christmas music but I like to savor it when I’m baking cookies or decorating the tree – in December. Not Nov 1st!
Check out the creamed corn recipe; I promise it’s like nothing you’ve ever had out of a can – it’s rich and creamy with the crunch of corn and the tartness from parm cheese – oh my it’s good. My FIL requests it every year and brings his own take-home container for extra servings 🙂
Happy weekending, Terri! MJ
I enjoyed this one MJ and am so happy you are my quirky blogging friend! Me? Have quirks? No, I am perfectly normal.
I’m glad you’re perfectly normal – that makes one of us! 😉 Thanks for being my blogging buddy Dor.
