Meandering thoughts and some nights

Are you like me and have 22 coffee cups in the cupboard but always end up using the same 3?

my favorite!

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night and wonder what – or who – woke you up?

Found a picture from – gulp – 20 years ago.  Size 6 and thought I was fat.  What an idiot. Note the ’90s hair scrunchy.

Went back to work this week and had the best week!  It was nice to be missed, accomplish some tasks, catch up with colleagues and feel the excitement at what’s coming up this year.  Plus, we had a visit from a 6 week old Border Collie. Now how could anyone resist this wee face?

aww .. She fell asleep in my co-workers arms.

Caught a new song that snagged my ear so hard I just had to Google it and play it over and over … and who knew the video was so cool?

How about you?  Do you have a favorite cup you use? How many others in the cupboard?   Tripped over any old pics lately? Met any new friends?  What song’s grabbed your attention of late?

  1. Good morning! Love the 90’s pic of you and your son. Isn’t it interesting to look back on photos from the past and contemplate what we thought of ourselves THEN?!
I’ll watch the video once hubby wakes up this morning (my sound is off on the computer right now).
And, gosh, I had one of those nights last night…probablly slept 2 hours. God was REALLY trying to get me to talk!

    • It is very interesting to look back with our more experienced eyes and appreciate now what we might not have then.

Pay attention to those early morning chats with our Creator – I’ve learned some valuable insights there 🙂 MJ

  2. Love the photo of you pushing your little one at a picnic with a dress on! Very cute.

Oh dear! Our mugs are dwindling. The country house has those concrete floors. Unfortunately for them they’re diving off the counter or out of our hands one at a time meeting their end. sniff…I miss a few of them.

    • and I had little lace up keds, I believe 🙂

Sorry to hear your mugs are throwing themselves off of the counter top – but I’ll bet you can find some “one of a kind” mugs at nearby Thrift stores – some of my favorites came from places like that!! MJ

  3. My two favorite mugs are packed in a box, somewhere in our storage unit.

I wake up a lot. I think its called perimenopause.

Is there a puppy on this planet that *isn’* cute?! Think you’ll get one again one if these days? 😊❤️

New friends? Yes! Just last month in California. Never can have too many, thats for sure.

The photo of you and your boy is great. I used to abor having my picture taken…back BEFORE wrinkles. What was I thinking?!?! Dumb girl. And what happened to scrunchies? Its like, POOF! and then one day they were gone.

Listening to the attached video requires a better internet connection…when I’m in town today I’ll try and remember to give it a listen!

Have a great Friday. And hey, welcome back to work!

    ~d.

    • I don’t usually wake up in the night but, when I do, I try to pay attention. I keep a notepad by my bed and try to remember to write down what was on my mind at the time – interesting.

Probably won’t get a puppy again but I’d consider an older pooch – still have to sell the Hubby on it. He’d be the one home with it now, not me. So I am content loving on everyone else’s dog 🙂

It’s fun to look back at our old pictures – and fashions, too!! Have a great day, D! MJ

  4. I just loved 90s hairstyles. So feminine. Now styles are a little flat for me but oh well. You were gorgeous and definitely not fat (what were you thinking?). The fact that your vacation aura lasted a whole week is a good thing. I was always grateful to make it to lunchtime on the first day in a good mood.

    • Thank you for your kind words; I love to look back at older pictures and think of those times – and see the growth!!

It was a really good week – whoo!! MJ

  5. is there a bear logo on your cup???? the cup in my hand right now (which is my favorite/ go to mug) has a bear paw on the side..bought it @ Bear Trap Ranch 2 years ago. and yes, there are a dozen mug on our shelf and we also only use 2 😉 How did you know? 😉 and as far as songs. someone on facebook mentioned some old old REO speedwagon son lyrics, so I had to go track it down. It still gives me good feelings whenever I hear it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rixifc64dg

    • Yep – a bear logo. The cup is from the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, MI – it’s owned & ran by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and the Bear is one of their totems/logos. I love the cup because it’s a low rider – low and wide with a thick, hearty handle. Not spindly and easy to tip. My other 2 favorites are similar, one is a bit taller.

LOVE that old REO song, that’s a great driving song but be careful or you’ll be speeding. I accepted a speaking engagement this coming week partly b/c I get 2 1/2 hours in the car with my tunes – whoop!! MJ

  6. Oh, yeah! I’ve heard that song a few times before. I’ve never seen the video, though. Pretty cool!

As for coffee cups – yes. I have loads of them. And I use the same 2.

90s hair wasn’t as crazy as 80’s hair. You look great there!

And the puppy is definitely adorable! How fun to get a visit from her while at work!

    • Love the video, very compelling 🙂
You’re right that 90s hair was better than 80s hair — in the 80s I just let my curls go and it was Murphy Brown-like.
A puppy visit makes for a wonderful day, that’s for sure. MJ

  7. You were a gorgeous 6! Your son and the puppy are adorable. And yes, I have been known to use the same two cups, at least until we got a whole matching set of handsome mugs and they all work perfectly. I so enjoyed this post, but what else is new? 🙂 ~Dor

    • Aww, thanks Dor! My mom is the only one I know who uses all of her cups – but then she also sometimes has all of us kids home and that right there (including inlaws and grands) is about 22 ppl!!

      Happy Saturday 🙂 MJ

  8. MJ, yes, use the same couple of mugs over and over again. Why is that? I love the photo…very attractive…I agree…what were you thinking? Fat?! Not even close! And the song…yes, I love the song. Found it last year through Pandora, but had never seen the video. Not what I would have envisioned at all! Surprising, but still love the song. Happy weekend! ~ Sheila

  9. I thinned out the number of mugs in the cabinet because the favorites are the ones that always get used. Scrunchies were all the way back in the 90s?! What a cute pup!
