It’s Friday! It’s time for 5 random thoughts! Here we go …
1. Meetings with new leadership were held yesterday. I caught myself getting nervous just before the WebEx began but I remembered something Hubbs had said the night prior, “You’ve got this. You know more about what you’re doing than anyone on that call, regardless of title. Act like you belong there … because you do.” Handsome looks and a fun personality are one thing but the stuff that keeps a relationship strong and happy is someone willing to lay down a brick for you – and I have the one who’ll trowel a highway with his bare hands for me. So grateful.
2. There’s been a few awards show on TV lately and it’s occurred to me, as I look up from my books, that I rarely know who any of the actresses or actors are. I also don’t know the shows being heralded or the designers doing the dressings. I’m either getting older or … yep, I’m getting older.
3. Youngest boy has a tender heart. He’s a “fixer” and often, the nurturer in relationships. That’s all good, because being kind and sweet beats snarky and rude any day, but I suggested he stop finding what I call “wounded birds.” I.E. sometimes another’s problems are too much for someone else to solve. And then I gave him the gift of my Mother’s advice to me:
4. I also shared with him my cousin’s often-used line, “More in the store.” He laughed and heartily agreed.
5. Speaking of store, I saw this witty sign online recently and thought somewhere a bored and creative deli employee had a lot of fun one day. And now I am singing that famous Eurythmics song from the 80s:
Here’s the MTV cult classic:
And how was your week? Do you recognize anyone on Awards shows? Any relationship advice to share?
Wow… lots of wisdom today in small doses. Wish I could pull these out like a dish washer pellet and leave a sparkling solution for some people I know.
Good luck on the webex call! Hey…they’re in good hands.
The webex went great, I am very happy with my part in it and the VERY supportive words of encouragement rec’d from “the new guy.”
I keep those little pearls of wisdom from Mom tucked away — but I will say the “wounded bird” line is all me 🙂 MJ
Love the quotes! So, so true. My husband married wounded birds (that was before me) too. Never ends well. I have no idea who these young stud muffins are that grace the screen both big and small (except for a very few). So you’re saying it’s because I’m old? Yikes! That cheese sign was hysterical. I love that kind of creativity. Hope it gets out more than just the cheese counter.
Yep, just say no to fixing everyone else 🙂
I’m getting older in the sense that I used to care about who all those new hot actresses were – now not only am I not finding them all that and a bag of chips, I’d rather have the chips now 🙂
That cheese sign was so silly and cheesy, I had to post it!! MJ
I work with a lot of high school and college aged kids. One co-worker especially wants a boyfriend and has picked the wrong guy several times in a row. After hearing another story of “turns out he was a jerk and sleeping around” (honestly….kids these days just tell you the raw truth about what’s going on). I told her that she should take a break from boys. Just be “you”. Hang with folks you know and trust. Focus on school, work and loved ones….Mister Right will come along eventually. Easier said than done I suppose.

You tell her auntie MJ says, “When someone shows you are, believe them the first time.” You gave her good advice; I gave the same to my boy ~ work on you, your job, your interests etc and the rest will fall into place … OR NOT – but it beats settling!!
Hugs! MJ
LOL I love the deli sign! It’s good to have a supportive hubby. I got one of those models. 😉 I’m with you, don’t know names/faces of the “stars.” Doesn’t bother me that I don’t, either. I guess I’ve found more important things to occupy my time.
I agree; Hubbs is not a huggy touchy guy but he does care and he often says just the right thing when I most need to hear it 🙂
And who couldn’t love a cheesy sign? 🙂 MJ
Your hubby’s a keeper alright. 🙂
I don’t tend to know many of the celebrities on the awards shows anymore either. And I rarely give those shows my full attention anyway. Yes, we’re getting older … BUT … improving with age! 🙂 I think we’ve realized that the time it takes to keep up with these celebrities is not worth spending that way.
Good advice for your boy! I hope his heart is healing.
Love the cheesy version of the Eurythmics! Funny – my Jake used to sing that song when he was a little kid. He always had an ear for music, but it seemed strange hearing those lyrics coming from his mouth. Maybe the cheese version would have been more appropriate. After all, he did once sing in church, “Lasagna in the highest!”
Lasagna in the highest had me rolling on the floor – hilarious!
the boy’s tender heart is mending, the hubbs is indeed a keeper and yes – still have no idea who most of those skinny, scrawny sour looking women celebrities are? Maybe if they ate something they’d be more relatable? 🙂 MJ
Love your Mom’s bit of advice!
She’s a wise one, that one 🙂 MJ
I’m not sure how I missed this post until now, but it’s a good one (as usual):
1.) Aw…you and I are so blessed in the hubby department, aren’t we? I love that yours encouraged you so when he new you were nervous!
2.) I can SO identify. When we went to California a few years ago and took the obligatory Hollywood/Beverly Hills tour, I told our driver that if we saw anyone who had become famous in the past 30 years, he’d have to clue me in on who it was!
3. & 4.) We mothers always want the best for our sons. And I’d never heard the “More in the Store” quote!
5.) Love the cheese sign – perfect!
Hope you’re having a good weekend!
Thank you, Dianna, yes he knew just the right things to say that’s for sure 🙂
“More in the store” – I have used that saying after I killed a plant by overwatering or wrecked something else — but it can also refer to the hoards of girls lined up to date him – if only he’d look around and see LOL
Happy Monday to you – have a great day MJ
