It’s the New Year and I’ve been (mostly) absent from this blog. I’ve read yours (thank you for continuing to post while I’ve been away). You see, I’ve reconnected with an old friend ~ my books.
I’ve read, and read, and read some more. Yes I’ve also cooked, cleaned, socialized, worked, and worked out .. yes, all that. But I’ve mostly leaned in and cozied up through this cold, dark January ~ So far Grand Rapids has had zero sunny days, 10 days with a little sun and 17 entirely cloudy days. Until I read that article I hadn’t noticed! You see between this little gadget shown below (used every morning) and all my delicious reading, I’m too content to care 🙂
I am relaxed and happier – all from doing what I love – with no guilt. Reading, learning, growing, and more. So much more.
- Does your reading activity go up in winter?
- Is it sunny where you are?
“Never forget that once upon a time, in an unguarded moment, you recognized yourself as a friend.”

- (and this friend READS )
There’s been a lot going on personally and I’ve had some eye issues so reading has gone by the wayside for now. It is the best way to relax and get transported to a different world.
I read where you had some eye concerns, hopefully that has all settled down now.
Yes, agree, cannot multi-task while reading, so I think that’s why I dive in so deeply … ahh!
Thanks for commenting, Kate!

I read like a fiend. It’s my escape. I think you can gauge the stress in my life by the number of books that I plow through. I’d love to see what you’re reading! I’m always on the prowl for new books and authors!
Love it, books have always been my friend ~ Mom and I had a shared passion for reading. I’ll see if I can put together a list ~ it’s pretty varied of late 🙂 Thanks for chiming in, Renee~

Used to read….don’t do much of it anymore. But I DO love that first picture!
I’m absolutely delighted at having re-discovered it .. it’s usually fast & furious in the summer and then picks up in winter — but this, this has been deliciously wonderful. And that picture … ah!!

Here north of Seattle it’s rained (or snowed) every day of 2020 – I read it yesterday. And it’s raining again just now. Great weather for water fowl and frogs! We’ve had a few brief sun breaks as well. As much as temps are typical for this area, winter’s not over until it’s over. Last year we had snow after snow for the entire month of Feb. Who knows what this Feb. will bring?
Yes it’s been dark and gloomy and wet, as you’ve described. no frogs out at this time of year, the lows are way too low .. and yes it does make mwe wonder what’s coming next? The other day I heard the most wondrous sound .. it was 38F .. and I heard birds chirping 🙂 Ahh!
Thanks for chiming in! ~ MJ
