Shine on

Now isn’t that a handsome pooch tucked into the new shiny award below? Yep, it’s about time that a canine connection was recognized here in the blogosphere!   You read that correctly: Frankie the dog has taken over the controls here at Emjayandthem.

Rom’s buddy Dianna at These Days of Mine shared this award via her kitty cat, Sundae.  Despite what you might think, I’m not anti-kitty.   I’m cat-neutral. Not that I know any cats personally. Unless you count that fat cat across the street who lies in the yard and stares at me; it’s not like we’ve been introduced though because Rom doesn’t let me cross the road. I think he laughs at me for that. Whatever.

Anyways, so on to the award.  Apparently the rules have been edited over time but here’s what I understand we’re to do:

  • Answer some questions
  • Nominate other dogs blogs
  • Include the award here
  • Pay the love forward by telling others they’ve been nominated
  • Pay the love back by linking back to the one who nominated you (dance with the one who brought you, so to speak)

What is My Favorite Color?   It’s a tie between black & white.

What is My Favorite Non-Alcoholic Drink?  plain ole H2O works just fine for me.  I’m partial to tap, shaken not stirred.

Yes I really am that subtle!

What is My Favorite Animal?    Duh! Dogs.

when I was just a pup

when I was just a pup

Do I Prefer Facebook or Twitter?   I prefer Myface.

What is My Favorite Number?   5:15.  That’s when Rom gets home and all is right with the world!

I’ve been part of every important milestone in this family. This pic was taken on my brother’s wedding day; I had a purple bow on!!

What is My Favorite Flower?  I really dig Rom’s peonies ’cause I can operate in super stealth mode in there.

can you find me?

What is My Passion?   Sleeping, eating, greeting, napping, stretching, sniffing, eating, dozing and grilling!

trying to be mannerly and not stare at the food directly

Many of Rom’s readers have award-free blogs, so we decided only to name those bloggers that we know have furry friends to share this with.  BUT we invite all of you who wish to accept this award to please do so.

Kreativ Blog on Fire .. x 7

Some sweet friends gave me Blog Awards and I’ve been remiss in accepting – and posting them.  From Dianna at These Days of Mine,” comes the “Kreativ Blogger Award” (November 2011).  From Renee over at Writing Feemail comes both a “Blog on Fire” award (July 2011) and the “7×7 Award” (December 2011).  I’m going to accept these awards now and combine my responses here.  Thank you very much!

The first two awards have rules stating that, in accepting, we are to reveal tidbits about ourselves that we might not have shared before now. We also are to share links to other blogs that we enjoy.  The fascinating tidbits (ha!) are below and my links follow at the end of this post. Here goes:

1.    Some of you know that I hold citizenship in both Canada, my birthplace, and in the United States, my home. What you don’t know is that every time I go through customs, it’s all I can do to hold myself together.  When an Immigration Agent says, “Welcome home” at either border, I blink back tears, every time.  I’m patriotic like that.

2.     I love to read and always have a book at my side.  But I get ornery when authors leave me hanging with a poor plot line or a dismal ending.  I will finish a book I’m not enjoying but won’t visit that author again. They don’t know this, or care, but I do. I’m stubborn like that.

3.     I bake goodies and give them away; chocolate does little for me.  Potato chips?  Different story.  Potato chips take me back to summer nights in a backyard tent, reading comic books with my cousin, telling stories and plotting our next great adventure. I’m quirky like that.

4.     I love going to the airport.  I can cry watching someone else’s reunion.  I’m sappy like that.

5.     The older I get, the less I care about what people say and the more I watch what they do. I’m determined like that.

6.     I try not to look back unless the view is worth it.  I’m odd like that.

7.     “Emjay” is a throwback to my childhood nickname, MJ, short for Marilyn Jean.   I’m sentimental like that.

Next up is the 7×7 award.   According to the directions of the 7×7 Award, the recipient should review all posts written and assign selections to 7 different categories.  It should then be passed along to 7 other bloggers.  This took me quite a bit of time to do but I have to admit it was rather fun.

My 7 top posts under each category are as follows:

1.  Most Beautiful – I had to include this post about saying good-bye to my Mother, “I don’t like to leave her”. This was one of the hardest posts for me to write; I cried my way through it and I still cry when I re-read it.   For more on my wee hero, read “On Mothering.”

2.  Most Helpful  – adopting a filing system to help deal with difficult people, Corn Casserole.” This is particularly appropriate as we head into times of holiday stress.

3.  Most Popular  –   I’ve been “Fresh Pressed” twice.. the first time, my post about Christmas music blaring on the radio the DAY AFTER Halloween seemed to hit a nerve with others.  “Sorry Frosty, not yet” was featured on November 1, 2010.  I was so green to the process that I didn’t understand why I had so many comments. 110 people commented and 46 bloggers “liked” the post.  Imagine my surprise when my emotional post about bawling my way through the Royal Wedding called So, did you watch?” was Freshly Pressed on May 3, 2011?  4,793 people read it, 137 bloggers gave it a “thumbs up” and 334 posted comments.   For days, I was busy responding to each and every comment … but oh was it ever fun!

4.  Most Controversial  – My posts are not controversial but this is one that I had angst about releasing, “Hop-Skippin the Rabbit Hole.”

5.  Most Surprisingly Successful –   see # 3 above.

6.  Most Underrated – One of my favorite memories is finding Christmas with Dad “One Christmas Night.” for more about the kind-hearted man who was my father, read “On Fathering”.

7.  Most Pride Worthy  – This post combines examples taught by my parents, lived by me & hubbs and taught to our boys: “What’s in your relationship basket?” Lastly, even though I moved to the city, I’m still a country girl at heart.  More at “Where I come from.”

These posts (sorry, I exceeded the 7 rule) tell my story: who I am and what moves me.  It’s consistent and I’m glad.

Here are my seven picks for bloggers whose writing I enjoy and for whom I think the 7×7 /Kreativ/On Fire would be new to them (they may have rec’d one but possibly not all 3).  I am looking forward to seeing what they will share through their own reflections at some point soon:

  1. Lenore Diane
  2. Tom
  3. Lissa
  4. Marc
  5. Rich
  6. Sheila

Please take time to pay them a visit.  There’s something on this list for everyone.  And to Dianna and Renee … Thank you!
