Random 5 ~ NYE

It’s Friday Thursday and New Year’s Eve.  Here are 5 randoms from my world:

1 Remember when New Year’s Eve was a big deal?  Getting dressed up, wiggling into pantyhose and new shoes and a sparkly little something to go out with a bunch of people, dance, and kiss under the 5-4-3-2-1 Happy New Year countdown?  It’s been years since I’ve felt like that.  Yes we’re going out with a group tonight – to dance, sing and such -but there’s no pantyhose in sight :).  I have a sparkly sweater in mind and we’ll probably be home by 10:30 to watch the ball drop in the basement ~ the only one I’m smooching is Hubbs.  🙂

2 I’ve been on vacation this week but didn’t feel like it until yesterday.  You see I’ve been on conference calls and had people pinging me left, right and center.  Yesterday I slept in, pushed away that nagging feeling saying I “should” accomplish something and instead embraced the massage chair that accompanied a pedicure.  I sipped a Caramel Iced coffee and read Hollywood magazines, catching up on the lives of people I don’t know.  When I was done I drove my relaxed self home and warmed up leftovers for supper.    A better day was not to be had.  ❤

3   “A year of ending and beginning, a year of loss and finding…and all of you were with me through the storm. I drink to your health, your wealth, your fortune for long years to come, and I hope for many more days in which we can gather like this.”
― C.J. Cherryh, Fortress of Eagles

4 Another year is upon us.  I stopped making resolutions a few years ago and instead continue to do what works for me — clearing away the clutter and making room for the good.  Getting rid of those who drain me and resisting the urge to let just anyone in. There’s a reason the rear view mirror is small and the windshield is wide.  😀

5 I’ve always loved this song.  And so I ask you this, “What are you doing New Year’s Eve?”

Happy New Year, friends!  ~MJ

One letter

This week – like many others – has been a blur.

Outta my way, peeps, I've got places to be!

Outta my way, peeps, I’ve got places to be!

I love the work I do, and usually, feel on top of my game.  To quote my friend Lynette, “Large and in Charge!” 🙂

Something that can derail my peace and happiness is someone else’s last-minute problems becoming mine.

I can handle it, and often do.  See, I started my working days as an Admin Assistant and worked my way up.  In that role, you wear many hats, get used to juggling knives and quickly finding answers to multiple inquiries.  Those skills have never left me {thank God!} but – when another’s lack of effort becomes a big hairy mess for me to manage- I can do it but often find it then ruins my momentum and steals my joy.

So what I do is this ~ I remove one letter from the word ruin:  that letter is “i.”  When I turn ruin into run – I’m back – Large and In Charge – just like that.

yes i can

What tricks do you use to manage your stress and work load?  Can you relate to “Large and In Charge?”

Random Five Friday – August’s end

It’s Friday! It’s Random! Let’s go!

1. I don’t know about you but it kind of felt like July left and September came early.  I was at the Capitol yesterday and could have sworn it was mid-September .. look at that sky!

2.  Speaking of August, guess what’s ready at the Orchard down the road?  Guess what I’m making this weekend?

3.  Remember me talking about the Nutribullet?  I’m still using it – daily!  If you want a daily blast of nutrition and energy, check it out.  My new favorite morning smoothie recipe is 1/2 spinach + blueberries, cantaloupe, strawberries, chia, flaxseeds, cinnamon, fresh ginger and almond milk.  Creamy, a bit spicy and delicious.  Keeps me full till early afternoon and I swear I’m healthier.  We’ll see come cold & flu season.

4. I’m lucky I work with a lot of capable and talented people and, for the most part, I’ve successfully removed any energy vampires from my life.  But this is still good advice, don’t you think?

5.  Late last week, I noticed some activity along the back fence.  In the late day sun, I spotted a Momma cat lounging and two of her youngsters tumbling and rolling down the hill.  Cats!  And wild cats at that.  I think Frankie would have made friends with them and can picture them all lying in a pile together.  No I’m not taming them and no I didn’t put food out, either.  Don’t really need a yard full of skunks and raccoons!

Speaking of cats, this made me laugh — here’s # 6 for a Random 5 Friday. Happy day, all!

Price-point

If you really put a small value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise your price.  ~Author Unknown

image from pinterest.com

Lately, I’ve evaluated how I “spend” my time vs. how I want to.

Isn’t it odd that we measure time in units of value?

How did you spend your day off?

Oh man, I wasted a whole hour!

But I digress.

Over the past year, I’ve examined my life and made a conscious effort to make room for what matters to me.   The energy vampires are (mostly) gone and instead, I’ve added a few battery chargers to my circle.

I’ve cleared out the clutter in my life so I can do what’s important.

I’ve stopped maintaining relationships that aren’t healthy.  Doing so has made more room for the ones that are.

I’ve gone to bed earlier, and looked better,  than the results any diet ever delivered.

I’ve faced fears, spoken up and taken on new things; these efforts have energized me more than any $100 skin care product possibly could.

I’ve learned that saying no  translates into a big, fat YES… for me.

I’ve learned how very satisfying is is to raise my own price-point.

How about you?  Do you depend on others to raise your price?  Are you in the process of change?  How do you feel about it?
