Game ready

So, there’s this big football game on Sunday: Brothers coaching the San Francisco something-or-others against the Baltimore what’s-their-names.

(smile)

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know I’m not there for the game.

I’m there for the food and the commercials! ūüôā

The Budweiser Clydesdale’s commercials are a favorite of mine and this one makes me think of two special blogging friends:¬† D at The View Out Here who raises & trains beauties like these and Dianna over at These Days of Mine who wishes she did.

Happy Super Bowl, everyone!

Best of Super Bowl XLV?

The beautiful Budweiser Clydesdales; an emjayandthem photo

Nope, it wasn’t the chips, salsa, wings or beer.

It was the commercials, of course!     Here are my favorites:

#1 VW can make even a dung beetle look cool (Use of “Black Betty” – brilliant)

#2 CareerBuilder Chimps wreak havoc in parking lot

#3 Hyundai’s “Sheep” .. stop settling for predictable

#4 Budweiser’s Wild West¬† (The Clydesdales pulling the stagecoach = simply awesome!)

# 5 Pepsi Max –¬†The entire pub laughed¬†at the ending.

And for goodness sakes, if you’re an award winning singer blessed with pipes that CAN handle singing a song as difficult as the National Anthem, at least learn the words!

How about you? Did you watch the Super Bowl this year?  What was your favorite part?

Game day Brownies

image from hersheys.com

It’s GAME DAY and after the cheesy, spicy¬†goodness of dips, pizzas and such, a little sweetness is just what’s wanted.

I give you the one – the only – Heath Bar Brownies.

With a combination of crunchy toffee pieces and rich chocolate,  this sweet little delight offers the perfect ending to any party.

¬†Here’s what you’ll need to make Heath Bar Brownies:

  • 1 family size box of brownies (the size that makes a 9×13 pan worth). Any variety, I buy store brand because it’s cheaper!
  • ¬†(most brownie mixes usually require¬†you to have have eggs, vegetable oil and water on hand. If you’re out of vegetable oil you can substitute apple sauce. The brownies will be lighter in color¬†and more “cakey” but they’ll still be good.)
  • 1 package of Heath Bar (or Skor) pieces.

 Directions:

  • Prepare the brownies as directed on the package and pour into a greased 9×13 pan. Next, spread the Heath Bar/Skor pieces over the top of the (unbaked) batter and press down lightly.¬† Cook as directed.¬† Cool about 1 hour; cut into squares and serve.

These travel great, freeze well but .. we’ve never had any left to freeze.¬†¬† So unless I make then when no one is around there’s not a¬†chance they’ll see the inside of my freezer.

  Enjoy and Happy Superbowl!

P.S. You don’t have to reserve these to 1 x a year.¬† Au contraire my friends; I’ve brought Heath Bar Brownies to baby showers, anniversary parties, tailgaters, picnics, funerals and girlfriends in need of a good friend, a good cry and some chocolate to lean on.¬†¬†

Are you ready for some Football?

image from homecooking.com

SuperBowl 45 is tomorrow!¬† At our house, SuperBowl equals super tasty snacks¬†and no SuperBowl party is complete without some spicy, cheesy goodness.¬† I make a variety of foods that we consider “SuperBowl-worthy” like wings, subs, and dips.¬†¬†

Here’s an easy recipe for Buffalo Chicken Dip.¬† It’s simple to prepare, naughty as hell and provides just¬†the right amout of “soak” for those of us who might like to¬†partake in a few Killians during the game.

Here’s what you’ll need to make this tasty treat:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softenend
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2-3 cups of cooked/chopped chicken (I use rotisserie chicken for flavor & ease of preparation)
  • 1 cup buffalo chicken wing sauce (any will do)
  • 1 cup ranch or blue cheese dressing
  • 1 cup shredded cheese – cheddar, colby whatever
  • PS:¬† you can use light versions of the dairy & dressings to cut some of the fat … but this dish is far from being heart-healthy

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350. Mix cream cheese & sour cream & spread into the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish.  Mix chicken & wing sauce and spread over the cream cheese/sour cream .  Next pour dressing (ranch or blue cheese) and smooth that over the chicken mixture. Top with shredded cheese & bake for 30 minutes.  Watch carefully to avoid burning the cheese.*

Serve warm with Frito scoops, tortilla chips & celery.

*This can be made ahead, taken to a party cold & heated up at the party destination.  Stand back and prepare yourself for the compliments!

Special thanks to my sweet friend Maureen who shared this recipe with me several SuperBowls ago.
