Random 5 Kitty Friday

Here we are already, February.  Wasn’t Christmas about 6 days ago?  Holy wow!   Here are some randoms from my world, with kitties helping to tell the story:

1 )  Return packages.  I don’t love shopping (except maybe Christmas shopping) – but I do love – l-o-v-e – online shopping.  Amazon is a favorite – and also a wormhole.  I can get lost in there for days.   Recently – for an upcoming trip with Hubbs – I ordered a couple of new swimsuits to try on in the comfort and privacy of my own home.  Too big! Yay – so  back they go for exchanges.  So I used the pre-paid return label that came with and sent them on their way about 10 days ago.  Checking the status today it appears they are traveling back via  bicycle.  Geez Louise – at this rate I should get my new suits after the trip.     Below is me watching a tracking # – Oy.

2 )  Like I do every winter, I booked in for a massage a couple of nights ago – There’s something deliciously decadent about stepping into a warm, dark room in the dead of winter, snow lashing at the windows, and enjoying a hot stone massage.  I had a new experience – this one didn’t hurt – not the massage itself (they shouldn’t ) – rather me & my muscles the next day.  Why?  With 25lbs of fluff gone after banishing grains -I have very little inflammation now – an UNEXPECTED BONUS!  Whoop!  Today – I feel like this little guy!

3)  Winter Trade shows – ’tis the season for Home & Garden shows, Boat shows, Camping Shows, Golf shows etc.  There’s a Woman’s Expo every year but I can’t ever get any women friends to go, too.  Wanna go with me?

time to explore new things!

4)  Speaking of time to explore new things ~ this is also the time of year that I get restless.  Maybe it’s being inside so much – and it could be the lack of sunlight.  For example, in  January I am pretty sure we had 423 days without any measurable sun.  The sun shone brightly two days ago and everyone in my office went from this:

5 ) The weekend’s here – brunch with Grandpa & the Elders tomorrow – Super Bowl  Sunday – time to rest, relax and enjoy.  Who’s ready?

  • No kitties were harmed in this post!
  • How about you:  Do you get restless in winter? Is there any sunshine in your neck of the woods?  Have you been tormented by the pace of a return package?  What’s on tap for your weekend?

Random 5 January Friday

It’s Friday! Time for 5 Random brand-new-year thoughts!

1) Our January weather has been weird.  -temps then + temps.   Blizzards then thunderstorms.  Lake effect snow then freezing rain then black ice then … warm weather and sunshine.  I think Mother Nature is in menopause!

amaze-myself

I can relate to Mother Nature!

2)  Nearly every ad on TV of late is about weight lossHow Marie lost 50lbs on Nuke-your-System!! Oprah and her cookbook and her love of bread! There’s even a new prescription out (can’t recall the name) that promises to accelerate weight loss – the disclaimer states that it “may cause seizures, greasy bowels, rapid heart rate and other side effects.”  Nice!   Who wants to be slimmer but with greasy bowels and seizures? Yikes!  I’ve been (largely) grain free since January 2016 and guess what – not only did I lose weight – I. Am. NEVER. Sick.  In 2014 I had bronchitis 5 times; 2015 – 3 times. 2016? None. Zip. Nada.  **As inflammation recedes the immune system can heal**.  Also-my skin healed, joints don’t ache any more and did I mention I am never sick – despite heavy travel, copious amounts of work stress, public interaction, and being around co-workers with colds & the flu. I’ve lost 20 lbs and 16″.   YES to no more Claritin, Mucinex, Tylenol Sinus, Neti Pot or inhaler needed!  You don’t have to spend a bunch of money eating fake food or chugging down pills – you really can heal from the inside out.  For more visit Cardiologist Dr. William Davis’ site, www.wheatbellyblog.com.

3)  Do you ever forget certain chores?  I forget to vacuum. I don’t dislike it, I just forget about it – oops.    What chore do you forget on a regular basis?

4) Saw this on FB and laughed out loud.  Snaccident.  I have never tried Nutella but I could hurt myself with Guacamole!

5)   And with that … I’m off to get more coffee!  Happy Friday, peeps!

What weight loss ad have you seen recently? Forget any chores of late? (Or on purpose? 🙂  )  Have you ever had a snaccident?

Random 5 Sunday ~ house cats, Chihuahuas, kids menus & donations

Like my summer, October is already flying by!  Driving home from work one night this week I caught my surprise at the brilliant reds already in the trees ~ see, that shouldn’t be happening yet b/c, in my mind anyways, it’s only … August!

Today I’m cooking for my guys and packing for a flight tomorrow – a whirlwind trip to Denver for a conference with colleagues and dinner with the CEO, how lucky am I! 😀

Here are 5 randoms from this beautiful October Sunday:

1 – Since cutting grains I’ve lost just over a House Cat & a Chihuahua in lbs.  What I’ve gained has been so much more – respiratory stability, increased stamina and glowing skin.   I thought this graph was a great illustrator of what stuff weighs.  Rephrased I’ve lost a medium bowling ball & a table lamp+ a couple of books!!  I’ve got some more to go but the best part isn’t the smaller sized jeans it’s NEVER BEING SICK – with tons of stress this year, travel, Mom’s passing, and gobs of sick people around me ~  I. Don’t. Get. The. Crud. Anymore.

Amazing!

2. This made me laugh out loud.   Our dog never did this but I know a few who have – at least they were sorry!

3. I took a personality test a few weeks ago for the conference happening this week ~ the results will be shared, analyzed and we’ll use them to help us learn our team’s personality types and strengths.  I barely remember my answers – oops!

4. This may be the greatest kids menu ever written!  Truth be told, every time we go out I read the menu then order the exact same thing I ordered last time! You?

Random 5 August Friday

It’s that time again! 5 Random thoughts in no particular order … here we go:

1  – For the past 2+ years a sticky note that says “Conf Call” has been stuck on my office door.  I really should play “Conf Call Bingo.”    I could have been a winner many times over!

Conference-call-bingo-card

2  – I doubt I’d ever get a tattoo.  I don’t dislike them and I’m not bothered by others having them.  I just can’t think of one single thing that I want etched into my skin … forever.  Plus – what if it’s a really bad tattoo?  Not like hair color, you can’t change it …  you’re stuck with that.  Thoughts?

10-Pound-Head

No

3 –  8 months ago I eliminated grains. Within 6 weeks I lost 15 lbs (8.5 in the first 2) and 16+” ~ and ~ I’ve held it off despite my crazy work/travel schedule,  moving, company reorganization, Mom’s passing, kid’s wedding, etc.  Now that I’m through all that craziness I’m looking forward to life going back “to normal,” whatever that is.    I am still eating my eggs, healthy fats, meats, veggies and berries.  I’m packing my lunch and declining lunch dates; I prefer my fuel to anything a restaurant is serving.  Talk about a shift change!  Looking back and taking stock I lost:

  • inflammation,
  • skin rashes,
  • fretful sleep
  • wheezing (threw out my DUSTY inhaler),
  • joint pain,
  • chronic respiratory infections,
  • cold sores
  • red/puffy skin
  • low blood sugar shakes
  • lethargy

I gained:

  • a happy tummy,
  • clear skin (and frequent compliments!)
  • bright eyes,
  • shiny, bouncy hair,
  • energy & vitality
  • a defined jaw line & neck!
  • no blood sugar swings
  • pain-free joints,
  • restorative sleep and
  • the ability to soar through life’s challenges without cold sores!

4 – Currently interviewing to fill an open position.  Candidates who cut to the front of the line and contact me directly (circumventing the HR process)?  Not cool.  I don’t care who you know or how you got my info ~ back to the line you go!

line-cutting-2-final

5  – It’s Friday!  We’re attending a family wedding tomorrow ~ yes we’ll go to the wedding ceremony and we’ll cry when we see the lovely bride peek around the corner. We’ll tear up when we see her Dad & Mom – Hubbs’ cousin – choke up at the sight of baby girl.  They’ll see a tow-headed toddler; we’ll see a beautiful and accomplished young nurse.  We’ll laugh and carry on with the aunts & uncles and cousins over drinks & appetizers at some bar we hit up before the reception starts.  Later we’ll clink glasses and laugh and smile during the reception.  I’ll wear something that twirls and my brown-eyed handsome man will take me for a spin on the dance floor.  At home boxes still wait for us.  Walls are still bare – not a picture in sight. Who cares?  Not me.   Life is meant to be … lived!

dance like no one is watching

How about you?  Ever played Conference Call Bingo?  Will you get a tattoo? If so, what?   Made any health changes lately?  What do you think about line-cutters?  And lastly, what’s on the docket for your weekend?

Happy Friday, peeps!

Move it on Over, Easter dresses, and progress

Here we are at Friday again ~  I took the day off for a few appointments and more moving-related stuff.  But I had to take a break and fill you in on some randoms this week.  Ready? Here we go:

1 Daylight savings came down this week.    I slept, on average, 4 hours (4!) the first 3 nights.  Whomever thought DST was a good idea is not a nice person and I’d like to personally give him a swift kick in the shins.   Geez!

daylight-saving-spring-forward-recover-confession-ecards-someecards

2 Taking our grand-daughter dress shopping tomorrow since she needs a “flower girl” dress for the wedding this summer.  In her words, it needs to be “swirly, twirly and girly.”  Easter is upon us and there’s an abundance of pink, peach and mint confections hanging in the girl’s department.  When I see those dresses I think back to my Mary Jane shoes, white knee socks, cold legs, the smell of Lemon Pledge in our church pews and pie. I remember how we girls called them our “hard” shoes, and how your feet really didn’t move once they were inside.  And Easter could be early so there could still be ice in the yard; pretty Mary Jane shoes could cause a twirling girl to slip & slide if she wasn’t careful.  I’m betting grand-daughter MJ picks out the shiniest shoes in the store!

3 Sorting, packing. Packing, sorting.  Carloads to Goodwill, bags to the dumpster.   Not moving what I don’t love. Apparently … I don’t love much!  ❤ Except books. Books, music and photos. All are non-negotiable.  And I just ordered a new book. I know, I know.  Don’t tell Hubbs 🙂

i have to stop buying books

4 As I sort and pack, I listen to music, singing along and grooving to whatever comes up next on the Mp3 player.  This Hank Williams classic (written in 1947) played earlier today and I still laugh at the lyrics, especially the various “dog descriptions,”  example:

Came in last night at half past ten
That baby of mine wouldn’t let me in
So move it on over (move it on over)
Move it on over (move it on over)
Move over little dog ’cause the big dog’s moving in

She’s changed the lock on my front door
My door key don’t fit no more
So get it on over (move it on over)
Scoot it on over (move it on over)
Move over skinny dog ’cause the fat dog’s moving in

The dog house here is mighty small
But it’s better than no house at all
So ease it on over (move it on over)
Drag it on over (move it on over)
Move over old dog ’cause a new dog’s moving in

Here’s a sampling from a movie about him:

5  I hate the pic on the left but share it because this is where my Wheat Belly story began – today marks 74 days following a grain-free lifestyle.  13 lbs down & many inches lost, a size & 1/2 down in clothes, even my shoes are looser! Sleeping great, no aches, skin’s happier ~ just feeling good. No, wait, I feel great.  Vibrant! Alive! Awake!  Had many ups, a few downs (social outings are a challenge sometimes).  But it was THAT muffin faced picture that motivated me to change my life and I have.   I still have a way to go but cannot believe the difference in how I feel .. and look~!

How was your week?  Any randoms you care to share?  Did you survive Daylight Savings time?  What was your Easter outfit like as a child?  Do you remember Hank Williams songs playing in your kitchen, too?  What’s the last nice thing you did for yourself?

** Happy Friday!

Random 5 Saturday- Radiators, Revolutions & True loves

Here we are at Saturday again and this week felt like four-in-one.

1.       Attended a meeting in an ancient City Hall recently and noticed steam radiators at the back. They took me back to grade 6 in our tiny prairie school.  That’s where we defrosted (homemade) wool mittens and, in a stroke of pure genius, my cousin and I convinced Mom and Aunt Irene to pack us grilled cheese sandwiches wrapped in foil. Why? About 30 minutes before noon you’d find those same foil packets set amongst the wet woolies and we’d guarantee ourselves ooey-gooey goodness for lunch.  I still remember the hissing and clanging sound those things made … and being cold most of the time.

2.       Went through a Starbucks drive-thru on my way back into town the other day. Now I don’t love Starbucks, as their coffee is a bit strong for me, and I’ve never adapted to their haughty sizing conventions. Venti-Grandayyyyy-whatever. I ordered a medium mild coffee with lots of cream and waited my turn in line. Well apparently we all waited too long because a gal behind me tooted her horn to get everyone going. Looking through the rear-view, I gave her what Mom always dubbed, “the look.” You know the look – you likely learned it from YOUR Mom. The look can turn someone into a pillar of salt. Anyways, confusing my acknowledgement for something else, she waved and offered what could politely be called a “hurry up” gesture.  Quietly and deliberately, I took my foot off the brake and put my car in park.  For a minute.  Or two. Maybe three? Who knows?  Just long enough to see her wave her hands and lose her you-know-what. Just long enough to send a message of, “Hey Honey, don’t mess with old(er) people.  Ta-wanda!”

 3.       Speaking of Tawanda, a bowling acquaintance told me I remind her of Kathy Bates in “Fried Green Tomatoes.”  I adore Kathy Bates but haven’t wrapped myself in Saran Wrap or hatched plans to smash some chick’s car in the parking lot … oh wait. See # 2. Ha!

I do love this movie!

I do love this movie!

4.        Next week oldest boy turns 30.  2 minutes ago he was this little.  Sniff, sniff.  He’ll always be my first true love.

That face! My boy. My first true love. An Emjayandthem (C) photo

That face! My boy. My first true love. An Emjayandthem (C) photo

5.       Yesterday marked 60 days grain-free.  60 days!  I’m feeling good, sleeping well, and no longer complain about aches & pains.  My skin’s happy, my clothes are looser, and I’ve found what works for me.  Social events are a challenge, travel can be as well, but you know what? I’m worth fighting for.  I’ve finally put myself on that d*mn to-do list I’ve carried around for 30 years.  Whoop!

What’s random in your world this week?  What revolutions have you inspired in your mind?  Did you have alternate uses for heating appliances as a kid?  What’s the last kind thing you did for yourself?
