The idea

“Use it or lose it” they said.  I rolled over vacation time last year to this one and it’s timing out so .. with that .. I’m on vacation this week — and following the “no plan-plan.”

Purposeful nothingness.

Iced Tea.

Flip flops.

Farmer’s Market.

Phone chats with siblings and cousins.

Firing up the grill.

Shutting down the laptop.

A stretch of days with nothing to do and all day to do it.

You can get old pretty young if you don’t take care of yourself.

I’m feeling younger by the minute!  🙂

When’s the last time you checked out? Have you ever had a week of “purposeful nothingness?”

My summer list

Spring’s come late to Michigan; we had snow as recently as two weeks ago. Not surprisingly, everyone around here is thinking ahead to summer.

Asked, “what’s on your summer list?” I found my list rolling off my tongue as though I’d practiced it for days! (maybe some of that’s true).

they're gonna bloom this week I think!

Summer Shandy... ah

Summer Shandy… ah

Hanging in the pool till I’m wrinkly and white; cherries, watermelon, corn on the cob and fresh summer peas.

Michigan cherries … yum!

Tigers baseball on the radio .. outside; play dates with the grand kids.

Summer gatherings, skirts, kitten heels and date nights … all under the light of a summer moon.

Frankie has the relaxing part down-pat.

That’s what I long for this summer.

What’s on your summer list?

Thanks to Jessie for the inspiration!

Whatever to the ever

When I got home from work last night, it was hot and muggy. Housework beckoned but so did the yard.  The yard won because well, there is a pool out there.

Old dog happily accompanied me as I hooked up the hose and watered my plants.

He supervised from the hill, the sun warming his old bones.

Next it was time to grill which meant I had to come in the air conditioning to retrieve the meat.  Notice I said “we” because Frankie is always willing to help. But first, he took his scheduled break on a cool floor.

You can’t see him in this photo but he’s there … he’s always there.  He was off to the right of the grill, his nose just far enough away to avoid being singed.

When it was all said and done and he’d had his allotment of meaty morsels, he retired to the condo for the evening.

An old dog, even more than an old spouse, always feels like doing what you feel like doing.  ~Robert Brault

How about you?  Does your pet take part in your routine or do you take part in theirs?
