Two for Tuesday

Care to play along? On Tuesdays, pick a topic and segue into it!

It’s Tuesday – 2 days in to a 4 day week – whoop!

1. Today’s the last day of March and I’m glad.  Why?  We’ve had 4 seasons in 2 days.  Mild Saturday. Snow Sunday. 50 and breezy yesterday. Today? Who knows?  Maybe April won’t be quite so finicky!

4 seasons of weather

2.  Stopped last night to get a few “treats” for the wee ones this weekend.  We have an Easter gathering planned  – an early brunch on Saturday. You see, when oldest boy & his wife divorced, Easter Sunday became yet another battleground with the other side.  I – for one – was not going to be territorial about it and there was no backing down from them, the uber-Christians.  I know, ironic, isn’t it?   I get it – to a point – the kids should have that time with their cousins, we’re all about that.  But there’s never been any g-i-v-e this way.  So,  about three years ago I announced we’d have our celebration on Easter Saturday.  Period.  I’m fine with it – it’s relaxed and fun and beats a “drive-by” visit any day of the week.  Grandpa will join us and we’ll have four generations in my kitchen enjoying some of  my “company French toast”, eggs to-order, bacon, ham, sausage, home-made hash browns, fruit, coffee, juice, etc.   Oh, and a “magic” pumpkin spice cake for Gramps, his favorite. Yes, there’ll be way too much. Yes, he’ll take 2/3 of the cake home (shh, that’s the point) and yes, the littles will probably overdose on candy.  They won’t be far behind us :).

Are you planning an Easter gathering?  In what ways have your traditions had to adapt over time?

Easter is the demonstration of God that life is essentially spiritual and timeless.  ~Charles M. Crowe

The fight

“A fight is going on inside me,” said an old man to his son. “It is a terrible fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other wolf is good. he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

The same fight goes on inside you.”

The son thought about it for a minute and then asked, “Which wolf will win?”

The old man replied simply, “The one you feed.”

Go to your baby a million times

I saw this image recently and it made me chuckle.

Why?

Because this is me and this is how I mother. All-in.

Both boys tower over me by 10″ or more but when times are tough and obstacles seem impossible, I help silence their fears by channeling Mrs. Cluck.

“Don’t stand unmoving outside the door of a crying baby whose only desire is to touch you. Go to your baby. Go to your baby a million times. Demonstrate that people can be trusted, that the environment can be trusted, that we live in a benign universe.”  – Peggy O’Mara

If you’re a parent, can you relate?
