In the now to enjoy the Wow!

I’m a planner, I admit it. It’s one of my strengths, both socially and in the business world.   I know my schedule weeks in advance. There’s room for modifications but, for the most part, I’m the one driving my bus.

driving the busEvery once in a while I feel it – a nudge.  A thought, fleeting or lingering, reminding me to stop looking out and start looking around.

Yesterday was one of those days.

Here is a glimpse at the internal dialogue that occurred between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m.

Another Dentist appointment, ugh.

Beautiful sunny morning, yay!

Dentist office 1.6 miles away, hmm.

Walk? Why not!

Put on sneaks, grab phone, ID, and garage door opener and go!

A half block from home the inner lizard chimes in:  you’re not going to make it, you’ll be late (I hate being late).

Legs keep moving.

2 blocks later, arms swinging, mouth smiling, the lizard chimes again: you’re going to arrive there all sweaty and hot.

Legs  keep moving.

3 blocks later, roofers working, neighbors talking, birds singing, mouth chirps out, “Good morning!”

Legs keep moving.

1 mile later, traffic moving, kids playing, lizard makes one last attempt to turn me around, “Aren’t you hot?  Aren’t you tired? This is stupid.”

Nope.  Mouth smiling. Hair bouncing. Legs moving. Arms swinging.

Arrive at Dentist office where I sit. Cool down. Recover.

And roll in the joy of being fully alive.

“You gotta be in the NOW to create and experience the WOW!”

Random 5 Friday – Cancelled Subscriptions

It’s Friday – whew!  The past 3 weeks have been a blur but I’m home now (smile) and have the day off today (big smiles!).

1. The birds are chirping,  the sun is shining and coffee tasted especially good in my happy place this morning:

2.  Had an appointment yesterday to have a spot on my forehead looked at lopped off.  The freezing hurt more than the biopsy. But, Skin Cancer has already made itself at home in my fair-skinned family and I’m not taking  any chances.  That little old(er)lady with the big floppy hat?  Yep, that’s me!

berry nice hat

3. Speaking of fruit, only two weeks till our Michigan cherries are ready!  I remember the summer that Mom and Dad took us (5) kids to visit our cousins in British Columbia.  The drive, through the Canadian Rockies and the Lower Okanagan Valley, took us right through orchard country.  Mom bought several cases of sweet Cherries and put them in the back window of the Oldsmobile where 5 Hooligans promptly took turns swiping them. Gulping them down secretly, thinking no one would know, would never suspect our cherry stained faces or fingers. Suffice it to say the road trip was delayed by frequent stops and stomach aches.  As an adult, my cherry-stained fingers take me right back to that summer. 🙂

Can't wait!

4.  Tomorrow we’re treating my Father-in-law to brunch.  We’ll be joined by our boys and grands.  4 Generations gathered together over French Toast, Ham and eggs.  Multiple conversations, laughs, abundant cuteness and love.  Can’t ask for more.  ❤

5. Read this quote and it reminded me to cancel a few subscriptions and continue to seek out battery chargers!

And how was your week?  What summertime fruit takes you back to your childhood?   What subscription do you need to cancel?

Random *cough* Five *cough* Friday

1.  There’s another big storm on the horizon and it’s a fine day to stay inside. (smile).

..brrr

2. On Facebook, there’s this thing people do called “Flashback Friday” – for you I post this, and I’ve call it, “Flashback Frankie!”

Frankie as a tyke

That picture was taken in our rented apartment when we relocated ourselves to MI; we were looking for a house at that time, but hadn’t yet found one.  Seems like more than 14 years ago now and yes, I still miss him.

3.  I’m digging the Keurig but, I have to say, the traditional coffee maker makes a better tasting cup of coffee.  The Keurig has more of an “instant” coffee taste.  I guess I favor coffee with a little heart:  the kind that’s sat on the warmer a while.   Takes me back to days at the rink, coming in from the cold, and ordering a “kid coffee” (double cream, double sugar, extra energizing!).

4. The only good thing about having Bronchitis is that it’s in my lungs, not my head. Which means my eyes are OK for reading. Which means I’m halfway through my bag of delights from that recent jaunt to the bookstore! Even when I bought them, I remembered thinking .. if only I had time to read them all!  How’s that for serendipity? 🙂

5. Being sick makes me appreciate being well.

A truly precious gift

“Forget yesterday – it has already forgotten you. Don’t sweat tomorrow – you haven’t even met. Instead, open your eyes and your heart to a truly precious gift – today.” ― Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free

Today I am thankful for autumn colors, blue skies, a pumpkin spice latte and a drive long enough to savor all three.  What are you grateful for today?
