Random Five July Friday – Work/Life balance, Summer reads, Gladiators and a year’s worth of Lessons

It’s Friday ~Here are my randomly thought-out thoughts as we head into the holiday weekend~

1 Work / Life Balance — I don’t know about you but I laugh every time I hear that phrase. What a joke -Like the words “quality time,” there’s no balance, never has been. Work is crazy, busy, demanding, and all-consuming. Life gets squeezed in here & there ~ but the balance thing? ha ha ha – Thank God for coffee ๐Ÿ™‚

2 Summer reading has me transported back to my childhood ~ at night, when all calls/webinars/demands have ended, I sink into my coziest chair and read in the golden hour ~ the last bit of sunlight streaming across the pages of my book, the TV off, the house quiet. Sometimes I stay up late reading but often I barely make it to 9:30 before my eyes are heavy and tired. My one true indulgence, that I savor daily, is reading for pleasure. Ahh … summer.

3 Lifestyle choices are giving me LIFE– Yes Life continues to loft challenges my way, but my ability to “deal” with them has increased so much~ I’m so much calmer and at peace with myself. Intermittent Fasting (IF) has given me incredible focus, stamina and clarity but much of my lessened anxiety I can attribute to having left alcohol in 2019 ~ It never solved anything, in fact it often made things worse b/c it ramped up anxiety and negativity ~ Now that it is no longer in the picture I traded in angst for peace & self-confidence. BAM! The image below personifies how I feel walking confidently towards my future knowing I can handle what life brings me! She is EXACTLY how I feel ~ INVINCIBLE!

4 My daily walks continue, with affection ~ what began as a break from work morphed into a return to joy – I love being outside, hearing birds, feeling the wind on my face, and saying “Hello” to all my furry friends along the way. I know all of them, the owners not as much ;). Here’s our neighborhood kitty, expert mouser, birder and catcher of all small pests ~ she comes when I call her, stays for a pet, refuses food and hunts, hunts, hunts!

  • So — how do you feel about phrases like “work/life balance” or “quality time?”
  • What’s saving your bacon these days?
  • Got a summer reading list to share?

Happy Independence Day!

Random 5 ~ Summer & that is all

It’s summer in Michigan ~ we all know what that means … Spring’s sweaty sister is here for a visit. Could be long, could be short but move over, ’cause she’s sharing your space! Here are Five Random thoughts for today ~ ~

1 ) Watermelon, Cherries, Blueberries and Strawberries in season. That is all.

2 ) Humidity is regularly 80% … or more. Walks are taken before 7:00 a.m. Books are devoured outside or under the kiss of a summer fan. That is all.

3 ) Michigan is still locked in/down. Just keep living. That is all.

4 ) Speaking of lock-downs – there is a strong physical & emotional resemblance to Hubbs here. Add golf and me and it’d be bang-on. That is all.

5 ) This is just a little too true ~ and that is all!

So, what day is it, anyway? And how are you coping?

Libraries in Summer

The air is thick and hazy, humidity hanging like a curtain.

I reach into my bag of treasures, make a selection and smile sinking into the coolness of my leather chair.

Air-conditioning blowing, too hot and muggy to be outside.

Darn.

So much to do, no desire to do it.

Darn.

Summertime books are calling.

I’m diving right in … you?

โ€œThe library in summer is the most wonderful thing because there you get books on any subject and read them each for only as long as they hold your interest, abandoning any that don’t, halfway or a quarter of the way through if you like, and store up all that knowledge in the happy corners of your mind for your own self and not to show off how much you know or spit it back at your teacher on a test paper.โ€

Random 5 Friday – meowtains and molehills

It’s Friday! It’s time for 5 Random thoughts from my world. Ready? Here we go!!

1.ย  I don’t watch much TV but I sure could relate to this:

change the tv channel

In rural Saskatchewan we had 4 channels, and one was French!

2.ย  Best book I’ve read this summer, hands down:

girl on the train

I couldn’t keep myself from reading it and was sorry when it ended. Yep, that’s a book hangover.

3. Peaches are ready.ย ย  I’ve eaten my fill and the rest will become a cobbler this weekend.

 mmmm

mmmm

4.ย  Meeting Grandpa and others for breakfast tomorrow. Guess who’s taking home cobbler? ๐Ÿ™‚

5. We’ve all heard the saying, “Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill” – well, here’s the cat version:

meowtain cats

Ha!

Happy Friday, peeps!ย ย  Who had the job of changing the TV channel at your house?ย  Read any great books lately? ย  Is there a cobbler in your future?
