Release me

*this is an update on a post from January 7, 2012

Picture yourself standing on a dock and everything you want to release from your life has been placed into a small boat; picture yourself untying the boat from its moors and giving it a gentle push.  Picture the boat floating away and, with it, all that you want to be rid of.

Update:

I’ve released relationships that drain my soul and pull me down; I’m responsible for me, not them.

I’ve released my need to say yes to everyone but myself and learned “no” is not a four letter word.

I’ve released old habits and opened the door to new. I’ve made room for wonder, splendor, excitement and creativity.

I’ve released fears about what’s to come and trust what Mom always said: I’m more than capable of handling whatever comes my way.

I’ve released my tendency to give it all away; I’ve learned not everyone deserves some of what I’ve got.

I’ve let it go.

Get back here boat, I want to get in, along with my three traveling companions: joy, hope, and happiness.

“Now then, Pooh,” said Christopher Robin, “where’s your boat?”
“I ought to say,” explained Pooh as they walked down to the shore of the island, “that it isn’t just an ordinary sort of boat. Sometimes it’s a Boat, and sometimes it’s more of an Accident. It all depends.”
“Depends on what?”
“On whether I’m on the top of it or underneath it.”
― A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

What will you place in your boat? Will you load it up and push it away?  Will you get in?

A rather large amount of gratitude

“Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.” – A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

Today, I woke to morning’s light peeking into the yard.

I woke to old dog, sleeping soundly and without pain.

I woke to a day filled with nothing in particular to do and all day to do it.

I woke to views like this one and my soul had no choice but to smile.

isn’t Autumn glorious? {{ Click to enlarge }} an emjayandthem photo

What’s making you smile today?

Savoring the Honey Jar

Today I am cashing in on a treat I’ve held back enjoying until now:  a massage gift card Hubbs gave to me at Christmas-time.

I’ve been tempted to indulge sooner but put it off because of illness and and a stretch of grey, uninspired days that ran into weeks.

Instead, I’ve saved it for now – for that time in winter when something delicious  to look forward to is welcomed.   I’ve saved it because sometimes anticipating something wonderful is nearly as much fun as experiencing it.

I’ve decided today’s the day.

Why?

Because it’s Tuesday, a “nothing special” kind of day. Yes, there is work to be done, both at home and in the office but there’s also a fridge full of Sunday’s leftovers and nothing pressing on my event horizon.

I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to my “hot stone massage,” in a soothing spa permeated with natural lavender and staffed by people who whisper.  (In my family of mostly men, no one whispers naturally). I’ll leave work a little early, arrive with a smile and step into a dim room illuminated only by a starred ceiling. I’ll sip my chamomile tea, slip into a heated cotton robe and relish the soft sounds of woodsy gongs, chimes and waterfalls.  I’ll feel like a girl .. a girlie girl who whispers.  I’ll very likely fall asleep and there’s a good chance I’ll snore or reveal family secrets.    I’ll ooh and ahh as my sore muscles and computer neck get worked over and afterwards, I’ll greet the fatigue that arrives as my tender limbs announce their existence.  I’ll drive home and pour myself into the comfiest clothes I own, have a chat with my  guys and later, later I’ll sleep the sleep dreams are jealous of.

“Well,” said Pooh, “what I like best,” and then he had to stop and think.  Because although eating honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn’t know what it was called.  ~A.A. Milne
